2019 Special Referendum Election

On March 12, 2019, the City of Hollywood will hold a Special Election where voters will be asked a decide on whether to fund a variety of city-wide public improvement projects to be funded by a General Obligation Bond (GO Bond) of $165 million. After more than a year of public input, needs assessments, and cost analysis, many significant projects in all areas of the City were identified as important to improve the safety and quality of life for Hollywood residents. The Let's GO Hollywood Citywide improvements are divided into three broad categories, with those categories appearing as three questions on the March 12th ballot.

- Neighborhood Improvements, Infrastructure and Resiliency - $23 million
- Public Safety Facilities, Technology and Equipment - $78 million
- Parks, Open Space, Recreational and Cultural Facilities - $64 million

Three questions related to the sale of City owned timeshare interests at the Hollywood Sands Resort and the Hollywood Beach Hotel and Condominium will also appear on the ballot. These timeshare interests were acquired by the City in 2015 as part of an agreement with Sean A. Cononie, Cosac Homeless Assistance Center, and Mark Targett.

  • Parcel ID No. 514212CJ9998 (HOLLYWOOD SANDS RESORT) includes timeshare units known as Unit 20, Week 31, and Unit 20, Week 32. 
  • Parcel ID No. 514213BD0130 (HOLLYWOOD BEACH HOTEL AND TOWERS) includes a timeshare unit known as Condominium Parcel 306, Week 12. 

City Charter Section 13.01, Sale of City-Owned Real Property, states in Section (c) that any real property which is beach or beachfront which the City proposes to sell or to otherwise dispose of must be approved by a majority vote of the City's electors voting on such proposal. Upon approval by the electorate, the City Manager or designee will be authorized to offer the Units for sale in accordance with the City Charter. If approved by a majority of the electors voting, such approval shall take effect as of the day immediately following the certification of the results of the referendum.

General Obligation Bond Issue For City Neighborhoods, Infrastructure And Resiliency

To improve the City’s neighborhoods, infrastructure and resiliency, including citywide traffic calming, neighborhood signage, rights-of-way landscaping, decorative sound walls, tidal flooding mitigation, and the undergrounding of north beach utility lines, shall the City be authorized to issue General Obligation Bonds, from time to time, not exceeding $23,000,000 in aggregate principal amount, payable from ad valorem taxes bearing interest not exceeding the maximum legal interest rate, and maturing no later than 25 years from issuance?

General Obligation Bond Issue For City Police and Fire Public Safety Facilities, Technology and Equipment

To improve the City’s police and fire facilities and equipment, including construction of a new police headquarters and parking garage and the purchase of fire apparatus for suppression and rescue, shall the City be authorized to issue general obligation bonds, from time to time, not exceeding $78,000,000 in aggregate principal amount, payable from ad valorem taxes, bearing interest not exceeding the maximum legal interest rate, and maturing no later than 25 years from issuance date?

General Obligation Bond Issue For City Parks, Open Space, Golf, Recreational and Cultural Facilities

To improve parks, open space, golf, recreational and cultural facilities, including renovating playgrounds, sports fields, Art and Culture Center, and Orangebrook and Hollywood Beach Golf Courses, and acquire Sunset property, shall the City be authorized to issue General Obligation Bonds, from time to time, not exceeding $64,000,000 in aggregate principal amount, payable from ad valorem taxes bearing interest not exceeding the maximum legal interest rate, and maturing no later than 25 years from issuance date?

REFERENDUM ON PROPOSED SALE OF TIMESHARE - UNIT 20, WEEK 31, HOLLYWOOD SANDS RESORT

This referendum would approve the sale by the City of Hollywood of a timeshare unit known as Unit 20, Week 31, in Hollywood Sands Resort located at 2404 North Surf Road. This property was acquired in 2015 but is not being used by the City. Under the City Charter, the City cannot proceed with the sale of this beachfront property unless and until it is approved at a referendum.

Under the City Charter, the City cannot proceed with the sale of this beachfront property unless and until it is approved at a referendum.

This property was acquired in 2015 but is not being used by the City. Under the City Charter, the City cannot proceed with the sale of this beachfront property unless and until it is approved at a referendum.
