The City of Hollywood's Emergency Operations Center is under a partial activation and all City preparations have taken place for possible impacts from Dorian. As of the National Hurricane Center's 8AM Monday, September 2 Advisory, Hollywood is not in the forecast cone, but this does not mean the City will not feel the impacts of Dorian. Hurricane Dorian is continuing west, but is still expected to turn to the north. A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect from Golden Beach in northeast Miami-Dade County up to Deerfield Beach. That means tropical storm conditions (winds in excess of 39 mph and periods of heavy rain) are possible and are most likely to occur later this afternoon. Catastrophic hurricane conditions are occurring over Grand Bahama.
Dorian is a Category 5 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph. The latest forecast track has Dorian turning toward the north off the coast of Florida and continuing offshore up the Atlantic coastline. It is important that residents continue to monitor Dorian’s progress and be sure they are prepared for changing weather conditions.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON SERVICES:
- All sanitation collection (garbage, recycling, hard junk, brush) is suspended. WastePro, the City’s sanitation contractor, will resume collections as soon as possible after the storm has passed. Residents are asked to secure their gray and blue garbage and recycling carts on their property. Keeping these carts from blowing around is not only a matter of safety, it also will assist the City in resuming collection services as quickly as possible. Any yard waste or hard junk must be secured and stored on your property.
- Broward's
Emergency Operations Center is now open 24 hours a day in response to Hurricane
Dorian, until further notice. The 311 Emergency Hotline is open and
will remain open 24 hours until further notice.
- Broward County has opened three special needs adults shelters and one pediatric special needs shelter. Broward County is still accepting applications for special needs residents. To register, call the Emergency Hotline at 311 or 954-831-4000. Broward County has approximately 1,130 adults and 245 children currently registered in the Special Needs Registry. You must pre-register to use one of these shelters. No general population shelters have been opened.
- The City of Hollywood's Emergency Hurricane Call Center has been activated. It can be reached at 954-967-4362(4EOC) for city specific information. Call takers are available from 8AM to 7PM.
- Free parking is being provided for Hollywood residents for the duration of the storm on a first come, first served basis in the City's two downtown parking garages located at the Radius Garage, 251 N. 19th Avenue; the Van Buren Garage, 251 S. 20th Avenue; and the Garfield Street Garage on Hollywood Beach at 8 a.m. Residents will need to provide identification with a Hollywood address. All vehicles must be parking properly in a marked parking space. Any vehicles not parked in a marked space will be ticketed and could be towed.
- Please be prepared for the possibility of tropical storm force winds by making sure any outdoor items that could be blown around in the storm are secured. Bring these items indoors or otherwise secure them as the storm approaches.
CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENTS:
- Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is closing all schools and District offices on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, as the District and Broward County prepare for Hurricane Dorian, which includes the preparation of schools designated as possible hurricane shelters. The District continues to monitor and prepare for the storm. As a reminder, schools and District offices are closed on Monday, September 2, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
- Per Broward County order all drawbridges in Broward County are now locked down until after the storm passes.
- Port Everglades is now closed to incoming vessels and the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will be closed at noon today.
- Broward County Animal Care & Adoption shelter is closed to the public. In addition to tending to the animals at the shelter, staff will be preparing to receive donated supplies that will be utilized in an anticipated recovery effort. Animal Control will be available for priority cases.
- All Broward County campgrounds, rental halls, and water parks are closed to the public.
- All libraries are closed to the public until further notice. Book drops will be locked and late fees will not be charged during the emergency.
- County auto tag offices that are normally open on Saturday are closed.
- City-operated Community Centers, Sports Fields, the ArtsPark Visual Arts Center and studios, Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center, Driftwood Pool and the Art & Culture Center are closed.
- City's beach concessions to the public have been suspended until further notice.
- Fuel sales at the Hollywood Marina have been suspended until further notice and all floating docks have been removed.
- SunShuttle by Circuit, the City's micro-transit service, has suspended operations based on the forecast and will not resume until after the storm has passed.
