[ARCHIVED] Hurricane Dorian Update

Hurricane Dorian

The City has completed preparations for possible impacts from Dorian and continues to monitor the storm closely.  As of the 2:00 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Dorian is located over Grand Bahama Island and moving very slowly toward the west-northwest near 1 mph.  It is 105 miles east of West Palm Beach.  A slow westward to west-northwestward motion is forecast during the next 24 hours followed by a gradual turn toward the northwest and north. On this track, the core of extremely dangerous Hurricane Dorian will continue to pound Grand Bahama Island through much of today and tonight.  The hurricane is expected to remain off the Florida coast and move north coming dangerously close to the Georgia and South Carolina coasts on Wednesday night and Thursday.  Hollywood remains under a Tropical Storm Watch.  While it is unlikely that Hollywood will experience sustained tropical storm force winds, several services are closed in preparation for potential impacts. Dorian is a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph. It is important that residents continue to monitor Dorian’s progress and be sure they are prepared for changing weather conditions.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON SERVICES:

WastePro, the City’s sanitation contractor, will resume collections as soon as possible after the storm has passed. Residents are asked to secure their gray and blue garbage and recycling carts on their property. Any yard waste or hard junk must be secured and stored on your property.

To register, call the Emergency Hotline at 311 or 954-831-4000.  Broward County has approximately 1,130 adults and 245 children currently registered in the Special Needs Registry. You must pre-register to use one of these shelters.  No general population shelters have been opened.
