[ARCHIVED] Hurricane Dorian Update

Hurricane Dorian

The City continues to monitor Hurricane Dorian closely.  As of the 5:00 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Dorian has become nearly stationary with the two most recent aircraft fixes showing essentially no motion.  A slow westward to west-northwestward motion should resume overnight and continue into early Tuesday, with the eye and devastating winds only slowly pulling away from Grand Bahama Island.  Dorian remains a category 4 hurricane with winds of 145 mph. Dorian is currently located 105 miles east of West Palm Beach. Although some additional slow weakening is forecast while the hurricane moves northward along the southeastern United States coastline due to increasing southwesterly shear, Dorian is forecast to remain a powerful hurricane during that time. The hurricane is expected to remain off the Florida coast and move north coming dangerously close to the Georgia and South Carolina coasts on Wednesday night and Thursday.  Hollywood remains under a Tropical Storm Watch.  While it is unlikely that Hollywood will experience sustained tropical storm force winds, several services are closed in preparation for potential impacts. It is important that residents continue to monitor Dorian’s progress and be sure they are prepared for changing weather conditions.
