Broward County Launches Census 2020 Workforce CampaignShow Your Love for BrowardBroward County is leading a countywide campaign encouraging all employers, large and small, to dedicate 10-15 minutes for employees to complete the 2020 Census.
The decennial census is crucial to our democracy and fair representation in Congress. It helps to determine how more than $1.5 trillion/year in federal funds are distributed. An undercount would mean the loss of millions of dollars in Broward County and would severely impact funding for schools and nutrition programs, hospitals and nursing homes, roads and highways, emergency preparedness and services, and other vital programs for the next 10 years.
The 2020 Census’ detailed demographic information holds exceptional value to businesses—they help inform decisions to expand, develop products, market, hire, mitigate risk, and increase return on investment.
Help us reach 100% participation by supporting the County’s efforts to count everyone in Broward – from newborns to older adults and everyone in between. Pledge to complete the 2020 Census by August 31st.
*Participating businesses will be featured on Broward County’s social media and/or website.
Respond to the census now
To pledge, please e-mail the name of your business or organization and the number of employees who completed the census to Census2020@broward.org
To show your love for Broward and to pledge to participate at work, please download the Approved Workforce Campaign Graphics.

The Florida Department of Health in Broward County has confirmed a locally acquired case of West Nile Virus. As a direct response, the Broward County Mosquito Control Section is spraying organic larvicide as part of an integrated pest management approach that also includes public outreach, adulticide application and setting mosquito traps. Residents and business owners are encouraged to survey their properties frequently to remove any standing water in common mosquito habitats such as buckets, tires, planters, bird baths and fountains. By reducing the number of mosquito breeding habitats, residents will reduce the number of adult mosquitoes that could otherwise transmit diseases.
Residents experiencing mosquito problems can request service by calling 311 or by completing the online Mosquito Service Request Form.

Land Survey Underway in North Central Neighborhood as part of Safe Route to School Sidewalk Project The Florida Safe Route to School Program helps communities fund projects to improve their transportation needs and encourage more students to walk or bike to school. The Safe Route to School program focuses on children in grades kindergarten through high school with projects that are pedestrians and bicyclists oriented.
As part of the 2016 Safe Route to School Grant Program, the Florida Department of Transportation will be funding approximately $517,000 in sidewalk improvements in the North Central Neighborhood of Hollywood. The reimbursable funds were recently made available for use in this Fiscal Year, and as such, work is now set to begin.
The scope of this project consists of approximately 13,225 linear feet of new 5-foot wide concrete sidewalks to fill in missing links along 26 different blocks of City streets within the North Central neighborhood. The project area is within the proximity of Avant Garde Academy of Broward, Oakridge Elementary School, Beachside Montessori School and Dowdy Field. New sidewalks will be constructed: Wilson Street from 26 Ave to N Dixie Highway Roosevelt Street from N 23 Ave to N Dixie Highway Cleveland Street from N 24 Ave to N Dixie Highway Arthur Street from N 24 Ave to N Dixie Highway Garfield Street from N 26 Ave to N Dixie Highway Hayes Street from N 26 Ave to N Dixie Highway Grant Street from N 26 Ave to N Dixie Highway N 25 Ave from Wilson Street to Johnson Street N 22 Ave from Wilson Street to Hayes Street
The City has hired Bermello Ajamil & Partners (B&A) as consultants for the design of the project. Residents in the North Central neighborhood should expect to see crews from B&A performing topographic surveys of the area. Crews will be working to identify all visible above ground utilities, water meters, fencing, walls, vaults, poles, sidewalks, driveways, and any other asphalt surfaces within and 5-feet beyond the public right-of-way. Crews will also be identifying vegetation and trees greater than 4 inches in diameter within and 5-feet beyond the public right-of-way.
