Volunteer Opportunity This Saturday, August 29thIn an effort to encourage Hollywood residents who have yet to respond to the United States Census, City volunteers will be out this Saturday, August 29th walking door-to-door distributing Census materials. Volunteers will focus in low self-response rate neighborhoods in Hollywood, in an effort to encourage residents to go online and fill out their Census questionnaire.
For those interested in volunteering on Saturday, please contact Jaime Hernandez via email at jahernandez@hollywoodfl.org for event details.
The United States Constitution requires that every 10 years a count, or census, is taken of America’s population. It’s crucial to our democracy and fair representation in Congress. It helps to determine how more than $1.5 trillion/year in federal funds are distributed. An undercount would mean the loss of millions of dollars in Broward County and Hollywood, and would severely impact funding for schools and nutrition programs, hospitals and nursing homes, roads and highways, emergency preparedness and services, and other vital programs for the next 10 years.
Visit https://my2020census.gov/ for more information and to fill out your questionnaire today. The deadline for self-response is September 30th.

The Florida Department of Health in Broward County has confirmed a locally acquired case of West Nile Virus. As a direct response, the Broward County Mosquito Control Section is spraying organic larvicide as part of an integrated pest management approach that also includes public outreach, adulticide application and setting mosquito traps. Residents and business owners are encouraged to survey their properties frequently to remove any standing water in common mosquito habitats such as buckets, tires, planters, bird baths and fountains. By reducing the number of mosquito breeding habitats, residents will reduce the number of adult mosquitoes that could otherwise transmit diseases.
Residents experiencing mosquito problems can request service by calling 311 or by completing the online Mosquito Service Request Form.
