Uncover Broward County Amendment Two

Uncover Broward County Amendment Two

On the November 3, 2020 ballot, Broward County voters will see a question regarding an amendment to the Broward County Charter. The Amendment 2 question, if passed, would allow the County to move forward on transportation surtax projects on County property within a City, without having to comply with the local municipality's zoning, regulations and ordinances. In other words, the City of Hollywood Ordinances would be bypassed if this amendment is approved by voters.

What is the ballot language?

COUNTY REGULATION OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF SURTAX-FUNDED TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS ON COUNTY PROPERTY

“To facilitate implementation of surtax-funded improvements to the countywide transportation system, shall the Broward County Charter be amended to provide that County ordinances regulating the development, including zoning, permitting, construction, operation, or administration, of transportation improvement projects that are (1) on County-owned or County-leased property and (2) funded in whole or in part with proceeds from the transportation surtax approved by the County’s voters in 2018, prevail over conflicting Municipal ordinances?”
YES  ____________
NO  ____________

Potential impacts of Charter Amendment 2?

If Amendment 2 passes, the City will no longer have the ability to regulate the development, zoning, permitting, construction, operation, or administration of any transportation improvement projects on County-owned or County-leased property that are funded all or in part with proceeds from the transportation surtax. City leaders ask that you be an informed voter and have your voice heard on this important matter.

CDC Temporary Halt in Residential Evictions

CDC Issues Temporary Halt on Residential Evictions Through December 31, 2020

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued an Order (under Section 361 of the Public Health Service Act) that temporarily halts residential evictions in an effort to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 through December 31, 2020.

To invoke the CDC's order, persons must provide an executed copy of the Declaration form (or a similar declaration under penalty of perjury) to their landlord, owner of the residential property where they live, or other person who has a right to have them evicted or removed from where they live. Each adult listed on the lease, rental agreement, or housing contract should likewise complete and provide a declaration. Unless the CDC order is extended, changed, or ended, the order prevents these persons from being evicted or removed from where they are living through December 31, 2020.
These persons are still required to pay rent and follow all the other terms of their lease and rules of the place where they live. These persons may also still be evicted for reasons other than not paying rent or making a housing payment. Executed declarations should not be returned to the Federal Government.

You may find the Order here
