MLK Day Video ContestThe Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday January. 18th will be the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. The City of Hollywood’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts is hosting a video contest for participants to submit a video of an original poem, spoken word passage, or showing an act of service. Participants must complete the online registration before Monday, January 25th. Once registered, a member of the Special Events team will email instructions for your submit your video. All video entries must be received by Monday, February 1st.
How it Works Show us your creativity bu using your favorite video sharing app (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc.) to create a video (up to two minutes long) in one of the following categories: - Day of Service; select a project that gives back to your community, this can be anything from sending care cards to a senior center, volunteering at a food bank, or doing a cleanup at a public park or beach.
- Original Work; using the subject of civil rights and/or social justice, create an original poem or spoken word passage that captures the essence of what you are passionate about.

Daily Northbound Lane Closures on North 56th Avenue from North Hills Drive to Stirling RoadThe Florida Department of Transportation has issued a traffic advisory for a partial closures on N 56th Avenue from North Hills Drive to Stirling Road beginning this week. The northbound lane on N 56th Avenue from N Hills Drive to Stirling Rd will be closed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for roadway widening to accommodate the construction of 7-foot buffered bicycle lanes. Traffic will be detoured via eastbound N Hills Drive towards Sarazen Drive to then follow northbound Sarazen Drive to Stirling Road. Access will be maintained for school drop-off and pick-up, local residents, public transportation, and emergency responders only. Motorists are encouraged to seek an alternate route to avoid delays. Construction is expected to be completed in Summer 2021.
In addition, there is a temporary Sidewalk Closure North 56th Ave., from North Hills Dr. to North of Douglas St. The sidewalk on the east side of the road along N 56th Avenue from North Hills Drive to north of Douglas Road will be closed for the demolition of the existing sidewalk for roadway widening operations. Pedestrians will be detoured through North Hills Drive, Stirling Road and the west side of the road along N 56th Avenue. A new sidewalk will be installed once widening operations have been completed.
The estimated construction cost is $4,993,116 and is part of the FDOT’s Southwest Broward Mobility Improvement Project.

Florida Department of Health - Broward County COVID-19 Vaccination RegistrationThe Florida Department of Health in Broward County, along with their partners, is offering free COVID-19 vaccinations to seniors 65 and older at five vaccination sites in Broward County. Vaccines will be available by appointment only for up to 500 new seniors each day, per site. The number of vaccination sites will expand as the local vaccine supply increases. Click here for appointments for drive-thru vaccination sites. Due to overwhelming demand, if you find that no appointment times are available please check back again often. Appointments can only be made through this website, please DO NOT call the Department of Health. If you have previously registered for an appointment, you should have received an email confirmation, please check your spam or junk email folders. For all future appointments, a confirmation email will be sent within 48 hours of successful registration.

Once an individual has received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, they will be given a scheduled time to return for their second dose. It is very important to return for the second dose on the day and time instructed to do so.
The availability of the vaccine does not reduce the need for ongoing COVID-19 testing, which remains available for free at many locations throughout Broward County, including the Boulevard Heights Community Center in Hollywood. VIEW BROWARD COUNTY TEST COLLECTION SITES. And while initial data of the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine is encouraging, equally important is to continue to follow safety protocols: wear a mask, practice safe social distancing and wash your hands often.
In addition to the Department of Health initiatives, there are 173 hospitals in Florida administering vaccines to health care workers who have direct patient contact, health care workers who are out in the community and to persons age 65+ determined by hospital providers to be extremely vulnerable to COVID-19. Curbside Collections for Select ResidentsDue to the alley closure between McKinley Street and Cleveland Street between N 56th Avenue and Emerson Drive, effective immediately the 33 residents within this specific area will have curbside collections until further notice. Additionally, curbside collections continue for the 30 residential properties between N 32 Ave and N 31 Road from Pierce Street to Johnson Street.

Annual Chip-A-Tree Recycling ProgramNow Through Monday, January 18 Broward County's annual Chip-a-Tree program is going on now through Monday, January 18th. Drop off your undecorated tree to a participating park, where it will be chipped and used for landscaping throughout the county parks system.
Last year Broward County Parks recycled more than 4,000 trees, representing tons of material that would otherwise have gone to landfills. This year your tree can join those recyclable thousands. The program is free, limit 2 trees per vehicle. No decorated or artificial trees will be accepted and no commercial vehicles or garbage trucks will be allowed. Regular weekend and holiday gate entrance fee will NOT be in effect for recyclers. Hours may vary, call the park directly for details.
