I-95 Northbound Exit Ramp to SR 84 To Close Through Spring 2022 The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has a major construction project currently ongoing on I-95 at I-595 and SR 84. As part of their $1 billion 95 Express initiative, the segment (95 Express Phase 3C) began construction in 2019 and will extend the existing managed lanes from Miami-Dade County into Broward County as well as provide direct connectors to and from I-595. Replacing the SR 84 westbound bridge over I-95 is included in this project's scope of work. This work will begin May 8, 2021 and continue through spring 2022. Intially, westbound SR 84 traffic will be moved onto the eastbound SR 84 bridge. The eastbound bridge will carry two lanes of traffic in each direction, which will allow for demolition and replacement of the westbound bridge over I-95. Additional ramp closures will be implemented in association with this activity to ensure motorist safety and expedite reconstruction operations. Ramp traffic will be diverted to U-turn movements at signalized intersections within the SR 84 corridor and the I-95 northbound exit ramp to SR 84 eastbound and westbound will be detoured via I-595. Pedestrian access will be maintained via a temporary sidewalk, which is being constructed on the eastbound bridge. FDOT understands the inconvenience the diversions and detour will cause during construction; however, the resulting changes are necessary to widen the travel lanes on I-95 below the interchange and to improve the efficiency and safety of the SR 84 interchange for the future. In an effort to accelerate construction and minimize impacts to the traveling public, FDOT has studied several options regarding phasing of this activity and has determined this option is the best alternative, as it will reduce bridge reconstruction time by approximately eight months (10 months instead of 18 months), in addition to expediting the completion of the overall interchange work at this location. FDOT's traffic operations team is working closely with Broward County to monitor SR 84 and the interstate to ensure traffic signals are operating efficiently. Signal timing will be observed and adjusted as needed to ensure as smooth and safe a commute as possible for travelers in this area. For more information, please visit the FDOT District Four website.
