ArtsPark Movie Night
Friday, July 9^nd at 8 p.m.

The Goonies (PG) will be featured Friday night on the big screen at the ArtsPark Amphitheater. Bring a blanket or beach chair for lawn seating. Social distancing will be enforced. Showtime is at 8 p.m. and admission is free. Catch a new movie every Friday night at 8 p.m. – visit the event calendar at www.hollywoodfl.org for the movie schedule. Single-use plastics are prohibited at the ArtsPark, please consider bringing a reusable bottle of water instead.

Johnson Street Road Closure between N 16^th Ave & N 20^th Ct
July 13^th - 14^th

UPDATE AS OF 7/7/21: Due to the recent inclement weather, the Johnson Street project has been rescheduled to Wednesday, July 13th and Thursday, July 14th between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.  
A temporary road closure of Johnson Street between N 16^th Avenue and N 20^th Court will be taking place Wednesday, July 13^th and July 14^th from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The closure will allow for the installation of concrete utility poles. Detours will be in-place routing motorists around the construction zones. Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route to avoid construction delays.

The closure is part of the Florida Power and Light ongoing Citywide hardening initiative. There are eight (8) locations with several involving closures and detours to the east and west of US-1 along Johnson Street between N 21st Avenue/Dixie Highway and N. 15th Avenue.

Temporary Lane Closures on 19th Ave between Tyler St and Hollywood Blvd 

Temporary lane closures are underway along 19^th Avenue between just north of Tyler Street and just south of Hollywood Boulevard. The closures allow for the installation of 500 feet of new watermain pipes. The lane closures will take place on a phased schedule over the course of the next 2-3 weeks. Work will begin in the area of Hollywood Boulevard and will continue north as the project progresses. 
 
Inclement weather and unforeseen utility conflicts may alter this planned construction schedule. Detours will be in-place routing motorists around the construction zones. Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route to avoid construction delays.  

In-Person & Virtual Community Workshops Planned for Stormwater Master Plan Update

Thursday, July 15th and Thursday, August 5th

The Department of Public Utilities will be hosting two public workshops to discuss the City's ongoing Stormwater system assessment, flooding mitigation plans, and the actions needed to adapt to sea level rise. These workshops are an opportunity for the public to share their past experiences with flooding events in Hollywood as a way to help guide the development of the Stormwater Master Plan. Issues to be discussed: sea level rise, flooding, saltwater intrusion, groundwater table, storm systems, water quality, storm surge, low-lying elevations, backflow flooding, high tides, infrastructure and resilience. About the City of Hollywood Stormwater Master Plan Update (SWMP)
The SWMP will review and update the City’s overall stormwater system to account for the projected effects of sea level rise, storm surge, and other extreme weather events. The assessment aims to identify and prioritize areas that experience flooding, and will induce a series of Capital Improvement Projects that appropriately update drainage systems and coastal infrastructure. The SWMP will define implementable actions for proactive planning for the City to adapt to sea level rise and flooding.

Report Issues with
Short-Term/Vacation Rental Properties

Struggling with a problem vacation rental that is licensed to operate in your neighborhood? We are here to help with two new tools to combat problem short-term and vacation rental properties. Whether it is a loud party, concerns with parking or trash, you can report it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to a live operator via a dedicated customer service telephone phone number, or via a real-time website. To report an issue simply:

The new 24/7 hotline and website will allow for: 

• Improved response time with real-time outreach to registered property owners/managers

• Easy tracking of properties and issues both in real-time and over time for staff. (Tracking for residents is not currently available through this service, however any violations issued can be viewed online

• Full documentation of photo, audio and video evidence of noncompliance for evidence-based citations and easily identify problem properties

• Efficient and convenient reporting tools available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Reporting Licensed Properties
When reporting the issue by phone, be sure to request the operator contact the property owner/manager directly. When submitting an online request, the property owner/manager will automatically be contacted. Once a report has been received, the clock starts ticking for the issue to be addressed. Property owners, property managers and/or the emergency contacts who are registered with the City will be immediately notified and given 30 minutes to resolve most issues. For more complex issues, staff will work with property owners/managers toward resolution. If there is no response from the property owner/manager, the problem persists, or the property is unlicensed, the issue will then be escalated accordingly.

Reporting Unlicensed Properties
While there are just under 700 short term/vacation rental properties currently licensed to operate in the City of Hollywood, we understand there are many thousands more operating without a license. You are encouraged to report these locations. Even though the City does not have contact information to quickly reach these property owners/managers for immediate resolution, reports will help to strengthen the database and arm staff with evidence to resolve problem locations over time. Issues with unlicensed properties, trash collection, advertising, etc. may not be resolved within a 30-minute window, however the more these types of issues are reported, the better the response to resolution time will be.

• Address Identification: Staff can actively monitor short-term rental platforms, property/activity documentation and compliance status

The City of Hollywood is pleased to offer this new service that will help ensure property owners/managers are operating their properties in compliance with all rules and regulations. The following information is provided for those who wish to assist the Surfside community impacted by the devastating collapse of the Champlain South Condominium building.

SUPPORT SURFSIDE
The Miami Heat, the Miami Heat Charitable Fund, the Coral Gables Community Foundation, the Key Biscayne Community Foundation, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and The Miami Foundation have partnered to create a hardship fund for those impacted by the Surfside building collapse. This hardship fund will allow residents both locally, and nationwide, to give toward relief efforts.

EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUND
The Greater Miami Jewish Federation has teamed up with Jewish Community Services of South Florida, and Mishkan Miami, the Jewish Connection for Spiritual Support to provide financial assistance, chaplaincy support, crisis counseling and social services. The federation says that 100 percent of funds collected will be used to provide assistance to those affected. OPERATION HELPING HANDS
Operation Helping Hands is a partnership between United Way of Miami-Dade and the Miami Herald/el Nuevo Herald that was created in 1998 in the aftermath of hurricanes Mitch and Georges. Since then, it has been reactivated in response to disasters and other emergency situations such as the COVID-19 global pandemic and now, the aftermath of the building collapse in Surfside.

The American Red Cross is at the scene of the collapse helping authorities with rescue efforts. It offers several online and mail options for donating. Donate online by clicking here. Several fixed vaccination sites are operating in Broward County offering the Pfizer vaccine to residents ages 12 and older. No appointment is required. No insurance necessary.

Broward County COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program

3 In-Person Service Centers Now Open
Online Portal Remains Active - Apply Today!

Residents behind on their rent and utility balances due to a COVID-19 financial hardship are encouraged to submit an application for Emergency Rental Assistance. Three new customer service centers offer in-person assistance if necessary or desired – an appointment is required.

Broward County has received $53 million in federal funding for its Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP), which for eligible residents provides 100 percent of past due rent and utility payments as far back as March 2020. Up to 12 months of assistance for past due rent is available for eligible residents who have experienced financial hardship, are at risk of eviction and homelessness, and up to three months of future payments to provide housing stability.

To schedule an appointment at an in-person service center, call 800-204-0557. An agent will help applicants ensure they have all the required documentation to complete the process. Applicants who are missing documentation will be given a checklist and asked to return with the proper documentation. Locations for in-person assistance include:

Tenants and landlords are encouraged to work together to complete the application process. Rental assistance funds will be paid to either the tenant or the landlord. Utility assistance payments will be paid directly to the utility provider.

An online application option is available and encouraged for fastest response. To apply online, visit Broward.org/RentAssistance or call 888-692-7203 for assistance over the phone in English, Spanish and Creole, Monday through Friday, from 8AM to 5PM. Tenants or landlords who have already filed an application can also call 888-692-7203 to check the status of their application. Please have case number handy.

As of June 22, in Broward County, 4,600 individuals have completed the application process and another 6,300 have started the process but not completed it. “We have funds available, and a program in place to help,” said Broward County Family Success Assistant Director Natalie Beasley. “We will continue to accept applications after June 30, but strongly encourage those who have started the application process and not completed it to do so as soon as possible.” For more information, visit Broward.org/RentAssistance.

Notice to Utility Customers

Reinstatement of Disconnections for
Past Due Balances Begins October 1st

Over one year ago, the City of Hollywood temporarily suspended its policy for service disconnections for past due balances. It was a way to help customers through a difficult economic time and to ensure water service was available for hand washing and other hygiene measures during the height of the pandemic. Customers were encouraged to stay current with their utility payments during this time if they were able, and to reach out for assistance in setting up a payment plan if they were not. 

Considering the current positive trends in the COVID vaccination rate and declining COVID-19 positivity rates, disconnections and late penalties for past due utility balances will resume on October 1, 2021.  Customers with an outstanding balance on their utility accounts have the following options:

• If you need assistance: Contact the Family Success Center for Broward County to apply for emergency assistance online here or by calling the Emergency Rental Assistance Hotline at 888-692-7203 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday

• If you would like to pay a delinquent balance in full:  You can make a payment online, use the 24-hour automated phone system by calling 954.921.3938 or one of the below options:
