The closure is part of the Florida Power and Light ongoing Citywide hardening initiative. There are eight (8) locations with several involving closures and detours to the east and west of US-1 along Johnson Street between N 21st Avenue/Dixie Highway and N. 15th Avenue. Nearly all of the work will be done along Johnson Street, however an adjacent alley east of N 21st Avenue, as well as N 20th Avenue on the north side of Johnson Street will also be closed. Motorists should continue to pay close attention to detour signing to avoid any congestion that may occur along the various detour routes. Temporary Lane Closures on 19th Ave between Tyler St and Hollywood Blvd Temporary lane closures are underway along 19th Avenue between just north of Tyler Street and just south of Hollywood Boulevard. The closures allow for the installation of 500 feet of new watermain pipes. The lane closures will take place on a phased schedule over the course of the next 2-3 weeks. Work will begin in the area of Hollywood Boulevard and will continue north as the project progresses. Inclement weather and unforeseen utility conflicts may alter this planned construction schedule. 2 New Ways to Report Issues with Short-Term/Vacation Rental PropertiesStruggling with a problem vacation rental that is licensed to operate in your neighborhood? We are here to help with two new tools to combat problem short-term and vacation rental properties. Whether it is a loud party, concerns with parking or trash, you can report it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to a live operator via a dedicated customer service telephone phone number, or via a real-time website. To report an issue simply: The new 24/7 hotline and website will allow for:
Improved response time with real-time outreach to registered property owners/managers Easy tracking of properties and issues both in real-time and over time for staff. (Tracking for residents is not currently available through this service, however any violations issued can be viewed online Full documentation of photo, audio and video evidence of noncompliance for evidence-based citations and easily identify problem properties Efficient and convenient reporting tools available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Reporting Licensed Properties When reporting the issue by phone, be sure to request the operator contact the property owner/manager directly. When submitting an online request, the property owner/manager will automatically be contacted. Once a report has been received, the clock starts ticking for the issue to be addressed. Property owners, property managers and/or the emergency contacts who are registered with the City will be immediately notified and given 30 minutes to resolve most issues. For more complex issues, staff will work with property owners/managers toward resolution. If there is no response from the property owner/manager, the problem persists, or the property is unlicensed, the issue will then be escalated accordingly.
Reporting Unlicensed Properties While there are just under 700 short term/vacation rental properties currently licensed to operate in the City of Hollywood, we understand there are many thousands more operating without a license. You are encouraged to report these locations. Even though the City does not have contact information to quickly reach these property owners/managers for immediate resolution, reports will help to strengthen the database and arm staff with evidence to resolve problem locations over time. Issues with unlicensed properties, trash collection, advertising, etc. may not be resolved within a 30-minute window, however the more these types of issues are reported, the better the response to resolution time will be.
Granicus Host Complaint System Service Enhancements:
Dedicated Hotline: Allows residents to report issues 24/7 and notify property contact Address Identification: Staff can actively monitor short-term rental platforms, property/activity documentation and compliance status COMING SOON - Compliance Monitoring: Staff can automatically mail notifications/enforcement letters COMING SOON - Rental Activity Monitoring: Provides Staff with detailed data to validate length of stay
The City of Hollywood is pleased to offer this new service that will help ensure property owners/managers are operating their properties in compliance with all rules and regulations. Over time, this service will help to improve the quality of life for residents and reduce strain on city resources. Take an active role in your community and take back control of your neighborhood. For more information on rules for short-term rental properties in the City of Hollywood and the City’s noise ordinance, please visit the City's Vacation Rental License webpage.

Hollywood is Plastic and Foam Free on Hollywood Beach, at City-Owned Properties & by City VendorsThe City of Hollywood is committed to reducing our environmental impact and becoming more sustainable. One step the City has taken in achieving this goal is to ban the use of nonbiodegradable containers, like plastics and expanded polystyrene foam (EPS), for serving food products.
On October 1, 2018, any establishment located east of the Intracoastal Waterway selling food intended for consumption by customers off the premises of their business, was included in the ban. On October 21, 2020, the City Commission approved a ban on single-use plastics and polystyrene on City-owned properties and by City vendors. City-owned properties include community centers, Hollywood City Hall, Fire Stations and more. A six month grace period is now in effect, prior to citation for violations.
What types of food packaging are banned? Cups, lids, straws, plates, bowls, utensils, sandwich containers, or other packaging, which are made of plastic, polystyrene plastic, or of any nonbiodegradable material are banned.
What is polystyrene and why did the City of Hollywood ban it? Polystyrene, best known as “styrofoam,” is a non-biodegradable plastic material made from petroleum. It is commonly used in takeout containers, disposable coffee cups, single-use utensils and dinnerware. The material breaks apart easily, and is often found littered throughout waterways and can harm wildlife if ingested.
How do you identify polystyrene packaging? Polystyrene material can be identified with the "6" symbol marked on the packaging.
What types of food packaging can be used? Businesses may use any compostable materials or paper. Businesses may also access the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI), which is an online catalog of key individuals and groups from government, industry and academia, which promotes the use and recycling of biodegradable polymeric materials (via composting).
What will happen if my business does not comply with the ban? Businesses found in violation will be issued a Code Violation and could face fines for failing to comply.
For more information about the products included in the ban, please refer to Code of Ordinances 97.05. You may also contact the City of Hollywood Code Compliance Division at 954.921.3061.

Notice to Utility CustomersReinstatement of Disconnections for Past Due Balances Begins October 1stOver one year ago, the City of Hollywood temporarily suspended its policy for service disconnections for past due balances. It was a way to help customers through a difficult economic time and to ensure water service was available for hand washing and other hygiene measures during the height of the pandemic. Customers were encouraged to stay current with their utility payments during this time if they were able, and to reach out for assistance in setting up a payment plan if they were not.
Considering the current positive trends in the COVID vaccination rate and declining COVID-19 positivity rates, disconnections and late penalties for past due utility balances will resume on October 1, 2021. Customers with an outstanding balance on their utility accounts have the following options: If you need assistance: Contact the Family Success Center for Broward County to apply for emergency assistance online here or by calling the Emergency Rental Assistance Hotline at 888-692-7203 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday If you need to set up a payment plan: Contact the City's Customer Service team by calling 954.921.3938 or by email If you would like to pay a delinquent balance in full: You can make a payment online, use the 24-hour automated phone system by calling 954.921.3938 or one of the below options:
