This Microsoft Word Advanced web tutorial is for intermediate users or confident beginners. This high-level review will cover some of the more intermediate to advanced functionality so that you can create or navigate complex documents and forms on your own. If you have a second monitor and access to your own version of Word during the training, this step-by-step review can also be used to practice in real time alongside the instructor as she navigates through the tabs and tools.

Some of the concepts that will be covered are collaborative documents, manipulating images & using custom graphic elements, securing documents & creating macros. This free workshop will be conducted by Broward SCORE and is sponsored by the City of Hollywood.

Got Any Bright Ideas? We Want to Hear Them!


Plans are officially underway for the annual SPARK Pitch Competition this October and applications are now being accepted for entrepreneurs at any stage of development to pitch their big idea. The ‘quick-pitch competition’ will feature entrepreneurs and new ventures competing for cash and in-kind prizes with a grand prize of $5,000. Contestants will give a three-minute presentation of their innovative business proposal to a panel of judges comprised of local investors and business professionals.

The City of Hollywood Office of Communications, Marketing and Economic Development and Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce have partnered to present this year’s SPARK Hollywood FL events, designed to support and grow entrepreneurship in our City.  

If you have the next great idea or business, apply today! Applications must be submitted by August 15th. The SPARK Pitch Competition will take place in person in October.

Amazon Commits $150M to Empower Black Entrepreneurs Through Accelerator Program


Amazon.com will help Black-owned businesses in South Florida and beyond through its Black Business Accelerator, an initiative to build economic equity and sustainable growth for minority entrepreneurs.
 
The program launched June 15, following Amazon's commitment to invest $150 million over the next four years to scale Black-owned ventures. The efforts of the initiative are supported by partnerships with Amazon’s Black Employee Network and a coalition of partners, including Hello Alice, the Minority Business Development Agency and the U.S. Black Chambers. This round of the PPP continues to prioritize millions of Americans employed by small businesses by authorizing up to $284 billion toward job retention and certain other expenses through March 31, 2021, and by allowing certain existing PPP borrowers to apply for a Second Draw PPP Loan.

Balfour Beatty Construction, LLC and OESBD are hosting a live networking event at Terminal 4, Port Everglades, to meet with small businesses (CBEs and non-CBEs) and discuss the current bid opportunities and plans for the Broward County Convention Center and Hotel Project. This matchmaking session is to introduce prime subcontractors with other potential CBE primes and subcontractors. Learn how to become CBE certified with Broward County.

A site map showing access to Terminal 4 and parking is included below. Visitors to the Port must present valid government-issued photo identification (such as a current driver’s license or passport) and comply with periodic vehicle screening at the Security Checkpoint upon arrival. The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) allows small and midsize employers, and certain governmental employers, to claim refundable tax credits that reimburse them for the cost of providing paid sick and family leave to their employees due to COVID-19, including leave taken by employees to receive or recover from COVID-19 vaccinations. The ARP tax credits are available to eligible employers that pay sick and family leave for leave from April 1, 2021, through September 30, 2021.
