Mosquito

It's Rainy Season. Drain and Cover to Prevent Mosquitoes!

Although mosquito season seems to be year-round in South Florida, it becomes a problem during the rainy summer months. This is the time of year when those pesky mosquitoes find even more opportunity to breed, and most of the time, we can help fight the bite. The Florida Department of Health encourages you to follow some simple tips to reduce mosquito breeding and prevent the transmission of mosquito-borne diseases like West Nile virus disease, Zika, Dengue, and malaria:

  • Drain water from garbage cans, house gutters, pool covers, coolers, toys, flowerpots, or any other containers where sprinkler or rainwater has collected.
  • Discard old tires, drums, bottles, cans, pots and pans, broken appliances, and other items that aren’t being used.
  • Empty and clean birdbaths and your pet’s water bowls at least once or twice a week.
  • Protect boats and vehicles from rain with tarps that don’t accumulate water.
  • Maintain the chemistry in your swimming pool to ensure water balance. Empty plastic pools when not in use.
  • Repair broken screens on windows, doors, porches, and patios.
  • Cover your skin when you have to be outside when mosquitoes are active.
  • Apply mosquito repellent to bare skin and clothing. Repellents with DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, para-methane-diol, and IR3535 are effective.

The Broward County Mosquito Control Division sprays areas with reported concentrations of mosquitoes, frequently checks known mosquito breeding sites, treats standing water and sprays in areas requested by residents. To request mosquito spraying in your neighborhood, please use the online Mosquito Spray Request Form or call Broward County at 954.765.4062.

Notice to Customers Regarding Disconnections

Notice to Utility Customers

Reinstatement of Disconnections for
Past Due Balances Begins October 1st

Over one year ago, the City of Hollywood temporarily suspended its policy for service disconnections for past due balances. It was a way to help customers through a difficult economic time and to ensure water service was available for hand washing and other hygiene measures during the height of the pandemic. Customers were encouraged to stay current with their utility payments during this time if they were able, and to reach out for assistance in setting up a payment plan if they were not.

Considering the current positive trends in the COVID vaccination rate and declining COVID-19 positivity rates, disconnections and late penalties for past due utility balances will resume on October 1, 2021.  Customers with an outstanding balance on their utility accounts have the following options:

  • If you need assistance: Contact the Family Success Center for Broward County to apply for emergency assistance online here or by calling the Emergency Rental Assistance Hotline at 888-692-7203 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday

  • If you need to set up a payment plan:  Contact the City's Customer Service team by calling 954.921.3938 or by email

  • If you would like to pay a delinquent balance in full:  You can make a payment online, use the 24-hour automated phone system by calling 954.921.3938 or one of the below options:

  • Cashiers Office at City Hall, 2600 Hollywood Boulevard, Room 103. Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday

  • Drive-thru window at City Hall, 2600 Hollywood Boulevard – (North side of building). Hours: 7:00 a.m. -6:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday

  • After hours drop box at City Hall, 2600 Hollywood Boulevard (North side of building) next to the "drive thru" window

Curbside Collections Parkside Neighborhood

Phase II Underway
in Parkside Neighborhood

The ongoing Department of Public Utilities watermain replacement project is underway in the Parkside Neighborhood. Work will take place from Dixie Highway to Federal Highway from Hollywood Boulevard to Pembroke Road, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. through February 2022.

As a reminder: due to planned construction activities in the neighborhood alleyways, the placement of garbage and recycling bins, as well as bulk items will need to be placed curbside at the front of a property. To ensure collection trucks can access the bins and bulk items at the curb, parking on the street will be prohibited from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Monday and Thursday.

Phase II in this temporary on-street parking ban and change to curbside collections affects the following residents:

Washington Street to Hollywood Boulevard from Federal Highway to Dixie Highway

The estimated completion time for Phase II is October 1, 2021. Your patience and understanding is appreciated during this important infrastructure improvement project.  If you have any questions, please contact Public Utilities at 954.921.3930 or Public Works at 954.967.4526.
