Effective Monday, August 9, 2021, the City will require anyone who enters a City of Hollywood building to wear a facial covering. This includes members of the public and City employees. Those refusing to wear a facial covering while in a City building will be denied in-person service, referred to the City’s online and/or telephone-based services, and asked to leave the building. |

Important Notice Regarding Impact to Solid Waste, Recycling, Bulk and Yard Waste Collections
City of Hollywood solid waste, recycling, bulk, and yard waste collections vendor, Waste Pro USA, has been heavily impacted by a recent surge of positive COVID-19 infections. A large number of WastePro crew members have tested positive for COVID-19 and have been forced into quarantine, which has resulted in service impacts City-wide. Until further notice, customers can expect temporary delays in solid waste, recycling, bulk and yard waste collections.
The City of Hollywood Department of Public Works would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding as they work to manage service impacts resulting from this new wave of COVID-19 positive cases. Staff will continue to monitor the situation and maintain a primary focus on weekly garbage collections, followed by yard and bulk collections. Recycling routes will be delayed, if necessary, to maintain the health, safety and sanitation of our community.

Get ready to get back to school! Consumers can purchase qualifying school supplies exempt from tax during this year’s 2021 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday. Passed by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis, the sales tax holiday runs through Monday, August 9. The Department of Public Utilities is hosting a public workshop to discuss the City's ongoing Stormwater system assessment and flooding mitigation plans, providing an opportunity for the public to share their past experiences with flooding events in Hollywood as a way to help guide the development of the Stormwater Master Plan. Issues to be discussed: flooding, existing storm systems, water quality, low-lying elevations, effect of climate change, infrastructure and resilience. Plastic and Foam Free on Hollywood Beach, at City-Owned Properties & by City VendorsThe City of Hollywood is committed to reducing our environmental impact and becoming more sustainable. One step the City has taken in achieving this goal is to ban the use of nonbiodegradable containers, like plastics and expanded polystyrene foam (EPS), for serving food products.
If you're planning on going to the beach or park or attending an event or meeting at City Hall, a community center, park, ArtsPark at Young Circle, or other city facility, please leave plastic bottles, bags and other single-use plastics and foam containers at home.

Hollywood Beach Golf Course Community Input Course Walk-Thru Events PlannedCalling all golfers and interested community members - all are encouraged to join the Department of Design and Construction Management (DCM), course architects and maintenance and operations staff for several Community Input Hole-By-Hole Course Walk-Thru Events during the month of August. Participants are asked to meet at 5:00 p.m. at the Pro Shop on one of the following three event dates:

The events are an opportunity to share your experiences and thoughts about the Hollywood Beach Golf Course site, which includes the course and clubhouse. The Hollywood Beach Golf Course is located at 1600 Johnson Street in east Hollywood. Golf carts will be available to assist those unable to walk the site hole-by-hole. City Launches New Customer Service App Called "Hollywood Connect"
Need to report a pothole? Have you spotted a clogged storm drain? Or maybe you have noticed a code concern. “Hollywood Connect” is a fast, easy and convenient way for users to report non-emergency concerns directly to Hollywood City Hall.
Today, the City announced the launch of its new customer service platform, “Hollywood Connect,” powered by Rock Solid Technologies. The new application allows residents, business owners and visitors to report concerns directly to City Hall for resolution. The easy-to-use app allows you to submit service requests for code violations, potholes, streetlight outages, unsafe conditions and more directly from your mobile device. If enabled, your GPS and location services on your device will help pinpoint the service issue location – or you may enter the location manually. Once received, service requests are then routed to the appropriate department for attention and will be responded to quickly and efficiently. Users can easily track the progress of their service request, will receive updates throughout the resolution process, and will be notified once the issue has been resolved.
Reports may be submitted using the Hollywood Connect mobile app, via the website at www.HollywoodFL.org/HollywoodConnect, or via email at hollywoodconnect@hollywoodfl.org. To download the free app, search for “Hollywood Connect” in the AppStore or Google Play Store.
Hollywood Connect replaces the “Help Me Hollywood” application, which officially expired on July 31st. The Help Me Hollywood app will automatically update to the Hollywood Connect app on Apple devices that are set to automatic updates. Android users who currently have the Help Me Hollywood app must download the new app from the Google Play store.
In addition to submitting service requests, app users may also pay their water bills (Hollywood utility customers only), view their garbage collection schedule, apply for a building permit or vacation rental license, and learn about events and happenings in the City. The app also provides for language translation.

Temporary Lane Closures on TAFT STREET between S. Longfellow Circle and N. Longfellow Circle
Temporary lane closures are planned along Taft Street between S. Longfellow Circle and N. Longfellow Circle beginning on Monday, August 9th through Wednesday, August 18th from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The closures allow for installation of the new 12” Force Main. Inclement weather and unforeseen utility conflicts may alter this planned construction schedule. Detours will be in-place routing motorists around the construction zones. Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route to avoid construction delays.
SR 822/Sheridan Street Resurfacing, Restoration and Rehabilitation (RRR) ProjectOne lane in each direction along Sheridan Street from N 22nd Avenue to SR 5/US-1/Federal Highway will be closed, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the removal of existing concrete, installation of new sidewalk and curb ramps, and installation of new pedestrian signalization. Additionally, one lane in each direction will be closed from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for thermal plastic and striping operations. Construction is expected to be completed in the fall. Southwest Broward Mobility Improvements Project One lane in each direction of N 56th Avenue from Pembroke Road to Douglas Street will be closed 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, for sidewalk construction, swale improvements, and asphalt placement. Detours might be implemented through adjacent roads if necessary, to improve safety. Flaggers will be present and detour signs will be in place to direct motorists around the work zone. Additionally, pedestrian signal improvements will take place at the intersections of S 56th Avenue/N 56th Avenue with Pembroke Road, Washington Street, Hollywood Boulevard, Johnson Street, Taft Street, Sheridan Street, and Stirling Road from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Workers will be present and lane closures will be place in the vicinity to direct motorists around the work zone. Work is underway through spring 2023.

Free COVID-19 Testing Site in West HollywoodThe Florida Department of Health in Broward County, in partnership with the City of Hollywood hosts a free COVID-19 Walk-Up Testing Site at the Boulevard Heights Community Center, 6770 Garfield Street in West Hollywood from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. This site is closed on Sundays and Mondays. No appointment is necessary, however if you would prefer to schedule an appointment, please call 954.412.7300. The City of Hollywood Office of Communications, Marketing and Economic Development and Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce have partnered to present this year’s SPARK Hollywood FL events. The SPARK Hollywood FL initiative is designed to support and grow entrepreneurship in our City.
Plans are underway for the annual SPARK Pitch Competition, scheduled for October. Applications are now being accepted for entrepreneurs at any stage of development to pitch their big idea. The ‘quick-pitch competition’ will feature entrepreneurs and new ventures competing for cash and in-kind prizes with a grand prize of $5000. Contestants give a three-minute presentation of their innovative business proposal to a panel of judges comprised of local investors and business professionals.

Notice to Utility CustomersReinstatement of Disconnections for
Past Due Balances Begins October 1stOver one year ago, the City of Hollywood temporarily suspended its policy for service disconnections for past due balances. It was a way to help customers through a difficult economic time and to ensure water service was available for hand washing and other hygiene measures during the height of the pandemic. Customers were encouraged to stay current with their utility payments during this time if they were able, and to reach out for assistance in setting up a payment plan if they were not.
Considering the current positive trends in the COVID vaccination rate and declining COVID-19 positivity rates, disconnections and late penalties for past due utility balances will resume on October 1, 2021. New Noise Regulations

New Rules for
Vacation Rental PropertiesOn January 20, 2021, the City made a number of changes to the Vacation Rental License Program Ordinance. Changes include a requirement that all existing vacation rental properties and properties being used as a vacation rental in the City of Hollywood must obtain a Vacation Rental License from the City of Hollywood, in addition to obtaining a State license and other licenses.

New Law Regarding County and Municipal Code Enforcement of Anonymous Complaints
As of July 1st, Florida law prohibits code inspectors from starting an investigation for potential codes or ordinance violations based on an anonymous complaint. The law now requires persons reporting potential violations to provide contact information before an investigation can begin. If an officer has reason to believe the alleged violation presents an imminent threat to public health, safety, or welfare or imminent destruction of habitat or sensitive resources, then the prohibition does not apply.
Effective immediately, in compliance with Florida law, Hollywood residents are required to provide their name and address when filing a complaint with Code Compliance. For additional questions, please call Code Compliance at 954.921.3061.

Phase II Underway
in Parkside NeighborhoodThe ongoing Department of Public Utilities watermain replacement project is underway in the Parkside Neighborhood. Work will take place from Dixie Highway to Federal Highway from Hollywood Boulevard to Pembroke Road, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. through February 2022.
As a reminder: due to planned construction activities in the neighborhood alleyways, the placement of garbage and recycling bins, as well as bulk items will need to be placed curbside at the front of a property. To ensure collection trucks can access the bins and bulk items at the curb, parking on the street will be prohibited from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Monday and Thursday.
Phase II in this temporary on-street parking ban and change to curbside collections affects the following residents:
Washington Street to Hollywood Boulevard from Federal Highway to Dixie Highway
