Comcast RISE to Award $1 Million in Grants to Minority Small Businesses


In June 2020, Comcast NBCUniversal announced the development of a comprehensive, multi-year plan to allocate $75 million in cash and $25 million in media over the next three years to fight injustice and inequality against any race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation or ability.

Through Comcast RISE, selected businesses could receive one or more of the following elements:
  • Consulting – Advertising and marketing consultations with local Effectv marketing, research, and creative teams to gain insights on how to grow your business.
  • Media – A linear TV media schedule over a 90-day period.
  • Creative Production – Turnkey production of a 30-second TV commercial, plus a media strategy consultation and 90-day media placement schedule.
  • Technology Makeover – Computer equipment and internet, voice and cybersecurity services for 12 months.
  • Monetary Grant – Businesses in Miami-Dade and Broward County will have the ability to apply for $10,000 grants from October 1-14, 2021. 

GRANT DETAILS 
 
If your business was established at least three years ago, is at least 51% owned and operated by person(s) of color, and has 25 or less full-time and part-time employees, you are eligible to apply for a Comcast RISE Investment Fund grant.

Qualifying businesses in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties may apply for the Comcast RISE Investment Fund during the application period of October 1-14, 2021. Grants will be announced at the end of November 2021 and awarded in December 2021. Six hundred grants totaling $6 million will be distributed as follows:
  • 100 small businesses in each designated area.
  • Each business will receive a $10,000 monetary grant.

Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses provides business management education, support services and access to capital for growth-oriented entrepreneurs.
 
The program is underwritten by the Goldman Sachs Foundation and delivered in partnership with Miami-Dade College. 
 
Is Your Business Ready?
Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses looks for applicants who are passionate about growing their business and creating jobs in their community, and generally meet these criteria:

  • Owner or co-owner of a business

  • Business in operation for at least two years

  • Business revenues of at least $75K in the most recent fiscal year

  • Minimum of 2 employees (including the owner)

  • Companies based in South Florida are encouraged to apply

Applications for consideration to participate in January 2022 are due by October 15, 2021.

Undergrounding of Utilities and Streetscape  Beautification for A1A

Construction to Start in the Next Few Months

 
The City of Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is preparing to mobilize the construction of the undergrounding of overhead utilities and streetscape beautification with work slated to begin at the end of this year. The project boundaries are along State Road A1A from Hollywood Boulevard to Sheridan Street. This is the CRA’s completion of the SR A1A Complete Streets project which was partially completed by the Florida Department of Transportation.
 
The project includes but is not limited to:

  • Undergrounding of overhead utilities
  • A new signalized intersection at Garfield Street
  • New landscape on sidewalks on both sides of SR A1A and in the medians
  • New sidewalks with colorful concrete pavers on the west side of SR A1A
  • New pedestrian lighting on the sidewalks on both sides of SR A1A

The CRA will be scheduling virtual meetings to provide an overview of the project and potential impacts during construction.  The project managers will be seeking information regarding business operations, food/beverage delivery times, trash hauler schedules, and any other operations which could be impacted by the construction of this project. The objective is to minimize any disruptions to your business.
