The City of Hollywood will be conducting a Regular City Commission meeting at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Hollywood City Hall, 2600 Hollywood Blvd Room 219. Please note, as a result of the reduced COVID positivity rate in Broward County, full public access to City Hall and other City facilities resumed on Monday, October 18, 2021.

In-person Attendance:
Facial coverings are recommended for visitors and required for staff while inside City Hall. Following a temperature check upon entering City Hall, staff will direct the public to the designated seating area for the meeting. Once the meeting begins and maximum indoor capacity is reached, no other members of the public will be allowed in the designated seating area. The City Clerk will call out the names of those wishing to address the City Commission in-person. When finished, speakers should exit City Hall unless commenting on multiple items. Those making multiple comments may return to the designated seating area and wait for their name to be called again.
Virtual Attendance:
Participants must pre-register to receive the Cisco Webex meeting link in order to join the meeting virtually. Registered attendees will receive the link to join the meeting via the email they provide during the registration process. Virtual participants must be able to join the meeting from an internet connected device with a web camera and microphone such as a personal computer, smart phone, or tablet.

Public Access to City Hall & City Facilities Has Resumed
Online and Drive Thru Services Still AvailableWelcome back! As a result of the reduced COVID positivity rate in Broward County, full public access to City Hall and City facilities resumed on Monday, October 18th. Masks remain recommended for the general public and required for City staff while inside City facilities. In a continuing effort to help stop the spread of COVID-19, residents are still encouraged to use the City's online services to conduct business and utilize the drive through window at City Hall to pay bills and fees. The Building Department's QLess Check-In Service should also be used to reserve your space in line before entering City Hall.

Get Ready for King TidesOctober 20-21Unusually high tides, also known as King Tides, are expected periodically through early December. Flooding in low-lying areas is more likely during this time of the year due to the close proximity of the moon which creates King Tides. These seasonal high tides, combined with rising sea levels and inclement weather conditions, exacerbate flooding risks. Rainfall and wind strength and direction also have a significant impact on the height of the tides causing them to come in higher or lower than predicted. With seven miles of shoreline, 7.9 miles of canals, and a flat topography, Hollywood is vulnerable to the effects of sea level rise and tidal flooding.
Based on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s tide predictions, above average high tides are expected: - October 20-21
- November 3-9
- December 2-7
Above average high tides are also expected again, on both the new moon and the full moon, and additional date to watch for tidal impacts includes November 18-19.
High seasonal tides can cause low-lying coastal areas to flood. Motorists are urged to use caution and seek alternate routes to avoid traveling on flooded streets. Coastal roads, parking lots and docks in vulnerable areas could flood during the times of high tide.
Seasonal tides could raise the water level by more than 2 and a half feet during high tide.
The City continues working on both short and long-term solutions to minimize the impacts of tidal flooding and has completed the installation of flap gates in the stormwater system to help prevent tidal water from flowing back through the stormwater drains. Additionally, auxiliary pumps are stationed in high risk areas to help clear flooded streets as quickly as possible.

Notice of ConstructionCathy & Bob Anderson Park5800 Thomas StreetConstruction is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 27th at the Cathy and Bob Anderson Community Park, located at 5800 Thomas Street. The City's contractor will remove the existing playground equipment and install new playground equipment, safety surface, and shade system. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 4-8 weeks, weather permitting. During this construction period the park, grounds and the basketball court will be closed.
“Park Closed for Construction” signs will be posted at park entrances prior to the start of construction. This improvement is part of the voter-approved General Obligation Bond.

SR 822/Sheridan Street Resurfacing, Restoration and Rehabilitation (RRR) ProjectOne lane in each direction along Sheridan Street from N 22nd Avenue to SR 5/US-1/Federal Highway will be closed, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the removal of existing concrete, installation of new sidewalk and curb ramps, and installation of new pedestrian signalization. Additionally, one lane in each direction will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for thermal plastic and striping operations. Construction is expected to be completed in the fall. Southwest Broward Mobility Improvements Project One lane in each direction of N 56th Avenue from Pembroke Road to Douglas Street will be closed 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, for sidewalk construction, swale improvements, and asphalt placement. Detours might be implemented through adjacent roads if necessary, to improve safety. Flaggers will be present and detour signs will be in place to direct motorists around the work zone. Additionally, pedestrian signal improvements will take place at the intersections of S 56th Avenue/N 56th Avenue with Pembroke Road, Washington Street, Hollywood Boulevard, Johnson Street, Taft Street, Sheridan Street, and Stirling Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Workers will be present and lane closures will be place in the vicinity to direct motorists around the work zone. Work is underway through spring 2023.

REMINDER: Important Information about Your Utility RatesLast October a new three tiered utility rate structure for water and wastewater customers began that included an annual rate increase while encouraging water conservation. The annual rate adjustments are funding increasing operating costs and mandatory water and wastewater system upgrades to meet state and federal regulatory requirements. The three tier rate structure rewards customers who conserve water and creates an incentive for those who currently do not, thereby allowing customers greater control over their monthly bill. The charges for water increase as usage increases, so the more water a customer consumes, the higher the rate they are charged.
An average single family residential customer’s monthly water usage is 600 cubic feet (approximately 4,500 gallons). Effective your first utility bill in November, the average water customer can expect to pay $25.62, an increase of $0.30 a month. The average water and wastewater customer will pay $77.58, an increase of $0.87 a month. The new stormwater rate of $7.62 is an increase of $1.50 a month, based on the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) Annual Price Index. As a reminder for seasonal customers who live here less than 12 months a year, a minimum monthly base rate is charged regardless of use. Sanitation Fee For Single Family Homes and Duplex Apartments
Effective October 1st, single family homes and duplexes who receive solid waste and recycling collection services from Waste Pro, USA will see a new monthly rate of $45.00 for twice-weekly garbage collection, weekly recycling and yard waste collections, monthly bulk collection, processing and disposal. Annual increases to the rate will be determined based on contractual obligations and program administrative costs. For more information please visit the City website.

Reinstatement of Disconnections for
Past Due Balances Have ResumedOver one year ago, the City of Hollywood temporarily suspended its policy for service disconnections for past due balances. It was a way to help customers through a difficult economic time and to ensure water service was available for hand washing and other hygiene measures during the height of the pandemic. Customers were encouraged to stay current with their utility payments during this time if they were able, and to reach out for assistance in setting up a payment plan if they were not.
Disconnections and late penalties for past due utility balances resumed on October 1, 2021. One step the City has taken in achieving this goal is to ban the use of nonbiodegradable containers, like plastics and expanded polystyrene foam (EPS), for serving food products.
