One Lane Closed on Sheridan Street Turnpike Overpass For Emergency RepairDrivers are encouraged to seek an alternate route One eastbound lane on the Sheridan Street Turnpike Overpass in the City of Hollywood is closed to vehicular traffic due to a truck that hit the underside of the overpass causing significant damage to the structure. The truck was carrying heavy construction equipment while traveling northbound on the Florida Turnpike. One eastbound lane remains open and the westbound lanes are not affected.
Broward County and the Florida Department of Transportation are working together to evaluate and repair the damage.
The County is helping to reduce traffic congestion in that area by synchronizing the traffic lights to maximize the flow of traffic. Drivers are encouraged to seek an alternate route until repairs are completed. FDOT N 26th Ave. Resurfacing Project
Resurfacing of N. 26th Avenue continues this week and other related work, like final striping and sign installation is expected to be completed by the end of May.
Detours will be in place while this work is underway, and some lane and full closures are to be expected. As part of this project, Weekly Asphalt will be resurfacing the roadway from Taft Street south to the Blvd.
This summer as part of the Utility Replacement Project, crews will be working on N. 26 Ave from Taft Street north to Sheridan Street installing approximately 5,900 linear feet of new water lines, 1,300 linear feet of drainage pipes and 2,200 linear feet of Exfiltration Trenches. Upon completion of this work, the roadway from Taft to Sheridan will be resurfaced & striped. Motorists should seek an alternate route to avoid delays. POSTPONED: FDOT Sheridan Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project
The full closure of the bridge has been postponed due to supply chain issues effecting the deliveries of materials. The full closure is tentatively scheduled to commence at the end of May 2022. Additional updates will be provided, and we thank you for patience and understanding. Please visit the project page for additional information.

Florida Department of Health in Broward County Advises on Meningococcal Disease and Vaccines in FloridaThe Florida Department of Health (FDOH) is responding to an outbreak of meningococcal disease in Florida. However, it can be prevented and treated. Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect against meningococcal disease.
Thus far, the number of cases identified in 2022 surpasses the 5-year average of meningococcal disease cases in Florida. FDOH epidemiologists are investigating each case as well as contacting people with potential or direct exposure to known cases to provide them with information and treatment options.
The following groups should consider vaccination with a meningococcal conjugate (MenACWY) vaccine during this outbreak: - College and university students;
- Immunocompromised individuals;
- People living with HIV;
- Men who have sex with men;
- People in any groups listed above who received their MenACWY vaccine more than 5 years ago.
Find meningococcal vaccines, including the MenACWY vaccine, by contacting a health care provider, county health department, or pharmacy. FDOH Broward offers meningococcal vaccines. For more information, visit the FDOH Broward website at broward.floridahealth.gov or call 954.467.4705.
This is a serious disease caused by bacteria called Neisseria meningitidis. Fortunately, these bacteria are not as contagious as germs that cause the common cold or flu. People do not catch the bacteria through casual contact or by breathing air where someone with meningococcal disease has been. It requires close contact over a period of time, or direct contact such as kissing or sharing drinks.
Early symptoms of the disease include fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, light sensitivity, confusion, and rash. Anyone who has been exposed or develops symptoms should be evaluated by a health care provider immediately. This is a rare but potentially devastating disease.
For more information about meningococcal disease, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website or the FDOH website.
