Monkeypox Vaccination SiteThe City of Hollywood continues to partner with the Florida Department of health to host a Monkeypox vaccination site within the City at the David Park Community Center, 108 N. 33rd Court.
The initial dose of vaccinations concluded last month with the 2nd dose of the vaccine scheduled to be administered at the Center from September 12 through September 23. Previously the site required appointments, but the health department has announced it will accept walk-ins at this vaccination site for those needing a first dose. The City’s David Park vaccination site will operate Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.* and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
*Please note vaccinations will end at 6 p.m. on September 14th due to a previously scheduled event at the Center.
The JYNNEOS vaccine is a two-dose vaccine taken 28 days apart. It takes 14 days after getting the second dose of JYNNEOS for its immune protection to reach its maximum.
Consult your healthcare provider if you think you have been exposed, are at a high risk for exposure, or to see if you should get vaccinated. The CDC recommends vaccination for people who have been exposed and people who are at higher risk of being exposed. People more likely to get monkeypox include:- People who have been identified by public health officials as a contact of someone with monkeypox
- People who are aware that one of their sexual partners in the past 2 weeks has been diagnosed with monkeypox
- People who had multiple sexual partners in the past 2 weeks in an area with known monkeypox
- People whose jobs may expose them to orthopoxviruses, such as:
- Laboratory workers who perform testing for orthopoxviruses
- Laboratory workers who handle cultures or animals with orthopoxviruses
- Some designated healthcare or public health workers

Liberty Street Surtax Rehabilitation and Maintenance Construction Project Set to Begin on MondayConstruction is scheduled to begin on September 12th along Liberty Street between North Park Road and North 31st Road, as well as on a section of North 31st Road just south of Liberty Street. This construction project includes storm drain upgrades, swale restoration, milling and resurfacing of the existing road, new pavement markings, and sidewalk replacement within the project boundaries. The work is scheduled to take place through February 2023.
Access to private property will be maintained, however driveway access will be limited following a concrete pour to allow for the concrete to cure. In order to accommodate the inconvenience, temporary parking in the swale area adjacent to private property will be allowed while driveway access is temporarily closed. Closures are not expected to last longer than 48 hours.

FDOT Sheridan Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project Full Bridge Closure over the Intracoastal Waterway - Extended Through October 15th
The SR 822/Sheridan Street Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway is remains fully for closed. Due to ongoing supply chain issues with some of the new electrical and mechanical bridge components, the full bridge closure period will be extended through October 15, 2022, to allow for the completion of the bridge rehabilitation. Additionally, weather has delayed some exterior operations such as painting of the steel as work is shut down during lightning, heavy winds, and rain. The Department is expediting the remaining scope of work and the contractor has committed crews to work around-the-clock to reopen the bridge as soon as possible. Eastbound traffic is detoured via US-1, Hollywood Boulevard, or Dania Beach Boulevard. Westbound traffic is being detoured via SR A1A, Hollywood Boulevard, or Dania Beach Boulevard. Access to local traffic and the Anne Kolb Nature Center will be maintained at all times via eastbound SR 822/ Sheridan Street before the bridge. Pedestrian access is also detoured.
Project improvements include installing bicycle-friendly/anti-slip walking plates along the bridge’s moveable spans, removing existing curb and adding a 32-inch traffic barrier between the sidewalk and roadway, removing and replacing the outer pedestrian railing, adding new pedestrian gates in each direction, renovating the existing tender house, upgrading electrical and mechanical components, and access platforms on the bridge.
Bridge opening times for marine traffic will be impacted through September 2022. The temporary bridge opening schedule is, as follows:
Daily, between 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
One side of the bridge will open on the quarter hour and three-quarter hour. Boaters needing a full opening should provide 4-hour advance notice.
Sunday-Fridays, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The bridge will be closed. Boaters needing a full opening should provide 24-hour advance notice. Full openings are available only between midnight and 1 a.m.
Friday-Sunday, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Single-leaf openings will be provided on the quarter and three quarter hour. A full opening will not be provided during this time.
The vertical clearance across both spans will be reduced by 5-feet for the installation of a containment system for the duration of the project.

Construction is taking place on North Park Road between Sheridan Street and Oak Drive near TY Park. This construction project includes swale restoration, milling and resurfacing of the existing roadway, new pavement markings, and sidewalk replacement.
Access to all properties will be maintained, however the new concrete will take time to cure so immediate access to driveways and sidewalks will be limited after concrete placement. In order to accommodate any inconvenience this may cause, temporary parking in the swale adjacent to private property will be permitted. It is anticipate driveway closures will not last longer than 48 hours.

Utility Work Underway on N. 26th Avenue from Sheridan Street to Taft Street
Full Roadway Closure - Motorist Encouraged to Seek an Alternate Route As part of the Utility Improvement Project, City contractor Man Con are working on N. 26 Ave between Taft Street and Sheridan Street installing approximately 5,900 linear feet of new water lines, 1,300 linear feet of drainage pipes and 2,200 linear feet of Exfiltration Trenches. Upon completion of this work, the roadway will be resurfaced & striped.
Motorist should seek an alternate route around this full roadway closure to avoid delays. Flagmen will be in place to re-route local/residential traffic. Driveway and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the improvement project.
In general, workers will be on-site between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, with construction taking place 5-days a week, weather permitting. This improvement project is expected to be completed by mid-November.
One Lane Closed on Sheridan Street Turnpike Overpass For Emergency RepairDrivers are encouraged to seek an alternate route
One eastbound lane on the Sheridan Street Turnpike Overpass in the City of Hollywood is closed to vehicular traffic due to a truck that hit the underside of the overpass causing significant damage to the structure. The truck was carrying heavy construction equipment while traveling northbound on the Florida Turnpike. One eastbound lane remains open and the westbound lanes are not affected.
Broward County and the Florida Department of Transportation are working together to evaluate and repair the damage.
The County is helping to reduce traffic congestion in that area by synchronizing the traffic lights to maximize the flow of traffic. Drivers are encouraged to seek an alternate route until repairs are completed

New Program Provides Late Shift Employees Direct Rides to and From WorkBroward County Transit (BCT) recognizes the need for a transportation solution that can provide residents access to/from employment opportunities outside the regular fixed-route service span. Late Shift Connect provides on-demand and direct transportation for late shift workers when regular transit services are generally not available.
Participants can request rides to/from their places of employment and home if their work shift begins or ends between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., 5 days per week. Anyone who works the late shift in Broward County is eligible. Your contact information and employer address and contact information are required.

Sign Up for Emergency Notifications The City of Hollywood has an emergency notification system called Alert Hollywood. Used by many government agencies throughout Florida, Alert Hollywood notifies residents through phone calls, e-mails and/or text messages to mobile phones of an emergency in the community such as a hurricane watch or warning, flash flood warning, tornado warning, serious police situations and other critical incidents.

Home Buyer Purchase AssistanceThe City of Hollywood extended an existing agreement with Broward County for the administration of the Home Buyer Purchase Assistance Program. Funding will assist eligible first-time homebuyers with a deferred-payment, Conditional Grant up to $50,000 to be applied toward the cost of purchasing existing or newly-constructed, eligible affordable housing located in the City. Eligible costs shall include direct purchase assistance, down payment, closing costs, mortgage principal reduction, interest rate buy-down, and other such costs which are considered eligible. Funds are available on a first come, first-qualified, first-served basis.

Homeowners Assistance Funding AvailableThe Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) was established under Section 3206 of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and provides more than $676 million in financial assistance to Florida through the United States Department of the Treasury. The state of Florida submitted its HAF plan to the Treasury on August 20, 2021, the program plan was approved on February 09, 2022.
