Broward County Jobs increased nearly 41,000 or 4.8% year over year as of September 2022. Unemployment down to 2.6%.
Broward County’s job report indicated a 2.6% unemployment rate in September 2022. This rate was 1.6% points lower than the area’s year-ago rate of 4.2%. The labor force was 1,084,533 up 45,684 (+4.4%) over the year. Nonagricultural employment in the Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Bch-Deerfield Bch Metro Division was 889,300, an increase of 40,800 jobs (4.8%) over the year. “With nearly 41,000 jobs added in September, and an unemployment rate of 2.6%, Broward County’s year-over-year job growth continues to trend upward at a rapid pace. Greater Fort Lauderdale is a location of choice for companies in high-value targeted industries, supporting the overall job growth in the county,” said Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance President/CEO, Bob Swindell. “We thank our many partners, investors and leaders at Broward County and our municipalities, who have been working with us to grow and diversify the economy.”

Data and Analysis In the month of September, The Construction (+7.2 percent); Education and Health Services (+6.9 percent); and Professional and Business Services (+5.6 percent) industries grew faster in the metro area than statewide over the year. The Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach Construction industry had the highest and the fastest annual job growth compared to all the metro areas in the state. All industries gained jobs over the year, the top two included Professional and Business Services (+8,900, +5.6%) and Leisure and Hospitality (+8,000, +9.2%). Non-Agricultural employment remained relatively stable with a month to month increase of 1,600 jobs or +0.2% growth. Majority of industries gained jobs over the month except for Professional and Business Services (-1,300, -0.8%), Leisure and Hospitality (-1,700, -1.8%), and Manufacturing (-200, -0.7%).
