Jobs in Broward County increased by 36,300 or 4.2% year  over year as of October 2022

Broward County’s job report indicated a 2.6% unemployment rate in October 2022. This rate was 1.3% points lower than the area’s year-ago rate of 3.9%. The labor force was 1,085,572 up 37,779 (+3.6%) over the year. Nonagricultural employment in the Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Bch-Deerfield Bch Metro Division was 900,800, an increase of 36,300 jobs (4.2%) over the year. 
 
“Broward County’s October unemployment rate remained stable at 2.6%, and more than 36,000 jobs were added, maintaining the year-over-year job growth trend. Greater Fort Lauderdale is a location of choice for companies in high-value targeted industries, supporting the overall job growth in the county,” said Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance President/CEO, Bob Swindell.  “We thank our many partners, investors and leaders at Broward County and our municipalities, who have been working with us to grow and diversify the economy.”

Data and Analysis

In the month of October, the Leisure and Hospitality (+9.8%); Construction (+4.9%); and Professional and Business Services (+4.5%) industries grew faster in the metro area than statewide over the year.
 
The Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach metro had the highest (+4,400) and the fastest (+4.9%) annual job growth compared to all the metro areas in the state in the Construction Industry.
 
All industries gained jobs over the year, the top three included Leisure and Hospitality (+8,600 jobs), Professional and Business Services (+7,300 jobs) and Education and Health Services (+6,100 jobs).
 
Non-Agricultural employment increased month to month by 11,500 jobs or +1.3% with all industries gaining jobs except for Information. No industries lost jobs over the month or over the year.

The Broward County Transits' (BCT) Late Shift Connect provides on-demand and direct transportation for late shift workers when regular transit services are generally not available. For more information or to enroll, visit lateshiftconnect.org.

Broward County Public Transportation 

Broward County Transit has launched a new plan and is looking for input on future transit options. The new plan is called PREMO, short for premium mobility plan, and will identify a pipeline of premium transit projects that will connect BCT services with regional services. Help define the future of Broward Public Transportation by providing your feedback.
