4. What will happen to my case after I make a report?

In most misdemeanor cases where the victim wants to prosecute, the victim follows up with the State Attorney’s Office to file charges. They are located at 201 S.E. 6 Street Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In felony cases, the Probable Cause Affidavit, reports and statements are forwarded by the Hollywood Police Department’s Case Filing Unit to the State Attorney’s Office. The State Attorney’s Office determines which cases they will prosecute.

5. How can I get a copy of a police report?

Florida State Statute 119 governs the Public Records Law. Reports can take up to 10 business days for availability.

Copies of police reports can be obtained at the Police Departments Records Section located at 3250 Hollywood Boulevard. They are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm excluding holidays and weekends. The cost of a police report is $.15 cents per page, or 20 cents for a double sided copy. Certified copies of reports are $1 per page. If extensive research is needed to complete a request, additional fees will apply.

Only those individuals involved in a crash, or their agent can obtain a copy of the crash report within 60 days of the crash date. An affidavit will be required to obtain such report.

6. What do I do if a report is incorrect?

If your report contains inaccurate information, the Officer that handled the original incident is the only one that can make changes to the report.

7. Where do I obtain a final disposition of a case?

A detective will be assigned to almost all felony cases and domestic violence misdemeanors.

15. How can I get something done about a continuous barking dog?

16. What time does the noise ordinance go in effect?

There is no specific time indicated in the ordinance. If noise is disturbing the peace, the ordinance is enforceable, as long as the complainant signs a complaint affidavit.

17. How do I evict a tenant?

An eviction is a civil matter handled at County Court. The Hollywood Police Department offers a Landlord Workshop to assist property owners in avoiding problems with their properties and tenants. 18. How can I find out if someone was arrested?

To conduct an arrest search in Broward County, visit the Sheriff website.

19. Where can I get a restraining order?

Restraining Orders can be filed at the Broward County Court House located at 201 S.E. 6 Street, Fort Lauderdale Florida.

20. How long do I have to wait before reporting a person missing?

A specific criterion has to be met before a person is categorized as a Missing Person. There is no specified time frame that one has to wait to file a Missing Person report.

21. What happens to unclaimed property?

Found items are considered abandoned after 90 days and are subject to destruction, donation to charity, or auction. Items to be auctioned are submitted to aPolice auction website, which handles all aspects of the auctions, including the terms, rules, bidding arrangements, and shipping policies.

Evidentiary items related to crimes other than capital felonies will be disposed of after the final disposition of the courts; as outlined within the Florida State Statutes relating to evidence retention.

22. Can I claim property that I found?

If a person wishes to make a claim on property they have found and turned into the Police Department, a $25 nonrefundable deposit fee must made to the Property Office within 48 hours. If, after 90 days the rightful owner has not made claim to the property, the person will then be able to retrieve it.

23. How do I get my property back that is being held by the Hollywood Police Department?

Please call the Property section at 954.967.4620 to confirm that we have your property and that it is available for release. Appointments are recommended and in some cases required. You will need your case number and photo identification. In some cases other documentation is required.

You may assign another person to retrieve your property with a notarized letter of authorization and photo identification. The letter must be addressed to the Hollywood Police Department Property Unit and include:

• Notary stamp and signature
• The case number
• The name of the person you are granting this authority
• Your signature

24. How do I make a complaint against an employee of the Police Department?

Complaints will be accepted in person, by telephone or by letter. It is preferred that the complaint be made in person by the individual who is directly involved in the allegation against the Hollywood Police Department employee.

Any Supervisor of the Department may accept a complaint.

Fingerprints are available Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00 am to 10:30 am Fingerprint cards must be brought in by the requester. The cost for fingerprinting services is $10 for City of Hollywood Residents and $15 for Non- Residents.

A local background check for incidents which occurred in the City of Hollywood is available at Police Departments Records Section located at 3250 Hollywood Boulevard. They are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. excluding holidays and weekends.
