The Florida Fire Prevention Code mandates certain occupancies be
inspected for compliance with the Florida Fire Prevention Code. The
Division of Fire Prevention & Life Safety conducts fire safety
inspections of buildings, structures, premises, processes, and/or
operations for the purpose of correcting any condition liable to
cause a fire or is a violation of the Florida Fire Prevention Code.
All Fire Prevention Officers are in uniform and carry identification. Any questions about inspections
can be referred to the Fire Marshal at 954-967-4404.
What permits are
required and how to obtain them
Due to the potential for certain activities and/or processes to create a dangerous condition a permit
is required prior to performing those activities or processes. The following are examples of activities
requiring a permit.
- Open Burning - land clearing, bonfires and celebrations, and campfires
- Fireworks - sparklers/novelty sales and displays
- Hotwork - use of torch and open flames
- Portable fueling - boats
- Explosives
- Hazardous Materials/Process
- Indoor Large Assembly Events
- Carnivals
- Festival Cooking and Vendors
- Special Events
A permit can be obtained at the Division of Fire Prevention & Life Safety Office located at 2741 Stirling
Road, Hollywood (just west of N. Park Road on the north side of Stirling Road) third floor. Some permits
require a fee and may have other costs associated with it.
