"Cans for Cash" FAQ
What is "Cans for Cash"?
"Cans for Cash" is a national contest for municipalities to encourage recycling in
their communities. The contest is sponsored by the United States Conference of Mayors,
Keep America Beautiful, Inc. and Novelis Inc. and rewards the cities that collect the
most aluminum cans per capita with $5,000 for environmental programs!

Why Recycle Cans?
Aluminum is a sustainable metal that can be recycled efficiently and is in high demand for reuse.
Two-thirds of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today. Making new aluminum cans from
used ones takes 95% less energy than using raw materials. Recycling one aluminum can saves
enough energy to run a television for three hours. Every minute over 113,000 aluminum cans
are recycled; help increase that number by recycling YOURS!

When is Cans for Cash?
Cans will be collected from October 1st through October 29th, 2010.
How can I help?
-
Join your neighbors and City employees in collecting as many aluminum cans as possible; drop them off at any community center or turn them in to 2nd party recyclers for cash of your own and then submit the receipts to Global Hollywood.
-
Organize your workplace or groups to help collect cans. This can be any location where there is a soda machine or people drinking from cans! From stores and restaurants to home owner associations, scout troops, schools or school clubs- anyone and everyone is invited to help with this worthy effort to recycle and raise funds for future environmental projects in the city.
-
Stay tuned to the City website for updates on our progress and related special events.

Where can I take cans?
City Hall and all City of Hollywood Community Centers will have special drop-off containers
starting October 1st. Keep in mind, cans may also be taken directly to recyclers, where you
can cash them in and then provide the receipt to front desk staff at City Hall or any
City Community center for your cans to count toward our total.
