Jr. Lifeguards
Program
Purpose of Program
To provide the children of our community
(8-14 years old) with a sound aquatic background and acquaint them with
the hazards of ocean swimming, while exposing them to an environment that
will teach confidence and good sportsmanship.
Program Content
Ocean and beach safety, lifesaving techniques and procedures, rescue
board and ocean kayak skills, ecology, first aid and competition in
ocean lifeguard events.
How
to Enroll
Registration and
waiver forms may be filled out at Beach Safety Headquarters.
Applicants will be taken on a first come first serve basis -
registration is limited.

Uniform Policy
Lifeguards will be
issued a shirt, shorts and whistle. Please wear uniform to class.
Swim Test
Applicants must possess a basic swimming
ability to participate. Returning Jr. Lifeguards will not be required to
take the swim test. Applicants for week one will be required to swim a
25-yard course and be able to tread water for one minute. Applicants for
week two will be required to swim a 100-yard course and tread water for
three minutes.
Items to Bring
We recommend that sunscreen be worn at all
times. There are also facilities to change in, so you can bring a change of
clothes and a towel. We will provide water and Gatorade to drink. If you
would like to bring your own food or drink, a cooler will be provided.
