Dick
Blattner was born and raised in Lima, Ohio; graduated from the
University of Wisconsin (Madison), and served in the US Army for two
years in Korea.
Starting in 1958, Dick worked for Helene Curtis Industries in Chicago,
and in 1963, joined Xerox Corporation in that city. Moving from sales,
to sales management, to National Sales Training Manager (in Ft.
Lauderdale) to Branch Management positions in Springfield, Illinois and
San Francisco. In 1973, he joined Saxon Business Products in Miami
Lakes, where he was a Regional Manager.
In 1977, Dick created Suncoast Marketing, representing a major producer
of point of sales supplies; eventually branching into computer supplies,
printing and promotional products. The successful company thrives today,
although Dick retired in 2001, selling the company to his former
colleagues and partners.
Dick married the former Bunny Kaye in 1961, and they have two children,
David and Billy, and four grandchildren. Bunny has been with the
University School of NSU for 35 years and her current responsibilities
include community and alumni relations.
In 1994, Dick was elected to the Hollywood City Commission and served
until 2000. In a special election in 2007, he was re-elected, and ran
unopposed for a full four year term in 2008. He currently serves as Vice
Mayor.
Current activities include: Volunteer at the Broward Outreach Center;
Chair of the Hollywood Family YMCA; serving on several committees of the Broward League of Cities as
Hollywood's representative while serving on the board of that
organization. Dick has also served on United Way, American Heart
Association, Liberia Economic and Social organization; Hollywood
Community Development Advisory Board, Budget Advisory Board, Education
Committee; Hollywood Chamber of Commerce; and the Hollywood Hills and
Emerald Hills civic associations.
