Commissioner Linda Sherwood was born in North Tonawanda, New York on July 14, 1942. Linda moved to the Hollywood area in 1961 with her parents and her younger sister. While attending Dade County Community College she met and married William Sherwood. Together they had four children and now have four grandchildren. Linda began her volunteer service as her children began school. She joined the Board of Directors of the Driftwood Elementary School PTA. From room mother to Church Leader at St. Boniface, to the Board of Directors of the Driftwood Civic Association, Commissioner Sherwood propelled her life into one of service and leadership. As directors for Driftwood, Commissioner Sherwood and her husband published the Driftwood News where she became quite accomplished in sales and marketing.
Commissioner Sherwood entered the Broward Community School of Nursing in 1983 after winning a scholarship. She graduated this 3 year program Magna Cum Laude and scored one of the highest scores for the State of Florida Registered Nurse Board Exams. She chose oncology as her specialty with a 40 hour advanced course of study and ministered with care and devotion to cancer patients.
During this time, she became concerned about the deteriorating conditions of the Driftwood Recreation Center and so she joined Hollywood's Master Plan Project. As chairperson she wrote the plan for the new recreation center and ball field. This started Commissioner Sherwood's dedication to the City of Hollywood, where she initiated many projects for the betterment of her community.
Following her retirement from nursing, she worked with the State Representative's Hollywood office. Here she met many of our senior citizens which inspired her to create Senior Staffing Solutions a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which helped seniors find employment. This added business experience as President of Senior Staffing spurred her to join the City Wide Master Plan as chairperson for Economic Development and Redevelopment of our city.
In 2000, Commissioner Sherwood and her husband moved into condo life in District 6 where her leadership abilities again propelled her to President of her corporation and also to the Board of Directors of 5300 Maintenance and Management which oversees the 24 buildings at Beverly Hills.
Now as Commissioner for District 6 she looks forward to serving our citizens in an even more dedicated manner and looks forward to a successful 4 years.
