Mayor Bober, a lifelong resident of Hollywood, was born in Miami. He is the youngest Mayor to serve in Hollywood's long history, and is the city's first elected official of Hispanic background (Cuban). He was elected in February, 2000.

Mayor Bober is a graduate of Nova High School, located in Davie, Florida. He attended the University of Texas at Austin where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government, and received the distinction of Non-Resident Tuition Exemption Scholar. After graduation, he attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School in Philadelphia where he served as both Associate and Senior Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. While earning his law degree, he volunteered for several federal agencies in Philadelphia, including the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the U.S. Attorney's Office, Organized Crime and Racketeering Strike Force.

Mayor Bober and his wife, Samara, practice employment law together at Bober & Bober, P.A., in Hollywood. The vast majority of Peter and Samara's law practice is devoted to employment cases within the federal court system. In addition to sharing a law practice, Mayor Bober and his wife are the proud parents of two children, Dylan and Ethan. Peter has published several scholarly legal articles, including, “The Chemical Signature” of the Fourth Amendment: Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry, and the War on Drugs appearing in the Seton Hall Constitutional Law Journal, and co-authored How to Conduct and Maintain Decorum in a Public Meeting for the Florida Bar's Local Government Law Practice Section.

His past and present community and civic activities have included: Chairman, Broward County Resource Recovery Board; Director, Hollywood Rotary Club; Director, Hollywood Business Council; Director, Broward County Hispanic Bar Association.
