The physical transformation now evident in roadways,
parks, community centers and other facilities throughout the City of
Hollywood began in earnest in 1998. At that time, the City Commission
and Administration implemented a significant Capital Improvement Plan
(CIP) to replace aging infrastructure and to aesthetically enhance the
City. The goals of the CIP remain the same today as then – to improve
services and create an attractive environment for residents, businesses
and tourists while increasing economic growth within the City. In
conjunction with the City’s CIP the voters of Hollywood approved a
General Obligation Bond (GOB) Referendum in November 0f 2004. The GOB
was created specifically for enhancements to Public Safety and Parks
and Recreation facilities. DCM implemented a full scale plan to design
and construct the $53.6 million dollars in Bond projects to be
completed within a five (5) year period.
The Department of Design and Construction
Management, being charged with the implementation of a major part of
the CIP and GOB, fully supports the Administration’s vision of improved
services, facilities and infrastructure as a means of stimulating
economic growth. We have a group of experienced professionals who are
dedicated to excellence in engineering and architectural design, and
who are primarily responsible for the construction and enhancement of
City facilities. Evidence of this can be seen throughout the City in
the projects that have been completed to date.
We look forward to applying our knowledge and
experience to make even greater contributions through proposed future
improvements to parks, community centers, police, fire and other City
facilities. We realize as well that the beach and downtown areas have
the potential to spur economic growth in the City of Hollywood.
Therefore, we remain strongly committed to working with the Community
Redevelopment Agency (CRA) to produce the necessary improvements and
ensure that this growth takes place.
We realize that the improvements that can be seen
throughout the City would not be possible without the support of
Hollywood’s residents, the Mayor and City Commissioners, and the City
Manager. On behalf of my staff and myself, I would like to express our
appreciation for this opportunity. We look forward to working closely
with the residents and City officials in the future to continue the
enhancement of our City.
