The City of Hollywood’s Environmental Services Division has developed a Green Waste Recycling Program for you. Hollywood residents can subscribe to this program and receive a 90-gallon container on wheels from the City for monthly pick up of yard trimmings. 

What can I put into this container:  

	•	Grass clippings
	•	Loose leaves
	•	Cut up palm fronds
	•	Small shrubbery cuttings
	•	Weeds

Prohibited Material: 

	•	Plastic Bags
	•	Rocks, soil and sand
	•	Garbage and recyclables
	•	Junk and bulky items
	•	Large limbs, branches and treated wood

How big is this container?
The green, vented 90-gallon container stands approximately four-feet high and is two feet wide. (It has wheels and a lid.)

When do I put it out?
If you are on an alley, you can leave the container behind your property. If you don’t have a service alley, store the bin next to, or behind your house and then put it out for service. The container will be emptied on the Wednesday of your regular monthly commingled collection.

How does this service work?
All you need to do is pay a one-time fee for the green container. It becomes your property. There is no additional charge for the monthly service. Once you’ve purchased the container, it will be delivered to your home. Each month, on the Wednesday of your week of brush collection, the container should be put out for service and will be emptied by City crews.

Why can't I use my own container?
These green waste containers are specially designed to be picked up using automated lifting devices on our trucks. A regular garbage can does not have the capability to be lifted by our trucks and would be too heavy for crews to empty.

How much does this service cost?
Your only expense is the purchase of the 90-gallon container ($22). The service is provided at no additional cost.

What happens to the material I put into this container?
This material is transported by large trucks to a facility where it is chipped up with the brush that is collected each month and recycled into mulch.

How do I subscribe to this service and get my own green waste recycling bin?

To order a Green Waste container you may either download the Green Waste Recycling Coupon and mail it along with your check for $22 to the Environmental Services Division, P.O. Box 229045, Hollywood, FL 33022-9045 or send an email to recycle@hollywoodfl.org giving us authorization to charge it to your City of Hollywood Water Bill and provide the following information: Name, Address, Telephone Number, City of Hollywood Water Bill Account Number.

Reduce,  Reuse, Recycle Green Waste:

	•	Feed your lawn by mulching grass as you cut it. As short grass clipping filter to the ground and naturally decompose, nutrients return to the soil and support further turf growth. By supplying part of the lawn's fertilizer needs, this practice can save about one fertilizer application per year.
	•	Grass clipping Increase the soil's organic content along with its ability to retain moisture and nutrients, to resist erosion and to maintain cooler temperatures during the summer. Using a mulching mower also  helps to return nutrients to the soil.
	•	"Leaving it lie" also reduces the amount of waste that must be collected and managed. Currently, 20 states (including Florida) have banned landfill disposal of yard trimming, the second largest component of the waste stream.
