The funds that are raised ensure that the civic associations may continue to run other programs to help make their neighborhoods a more desirable place to live.

DETAILS ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Collection times are between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM, so neighbors have three hours to collect as much trash as possible within that time frame. Each approved, full bag of trash translates into $5.00 for the neighborhood association. There is no limit on the amount of volunteers or the amount of litter collected. The only limit is the time. Promptly at noon, the bags are counted, verified and picked up from the central location.

The City of Hollywood's Department of Community Development and Code Compliance provides specially marked trash bags and staff to offer assistance during the scheduled event.

Participants collect full bags of trash, leaving them on the corner in order to free their hands and continue collecting.

Utilizing the Department's truck, staff surveys the neighborhood and collects the bags in order to take them to the central location for the bulk to later be retrieved.

Bulk trash is not eligible to be counted and may not be collected. Examples of excluded garbage include hazardous materials, tires, traffic accident debris, large brush, shopping carts or other items that do not easily fit into standard 42 gallon garbage bags.

HOMES OF THE MONTH:

The intent of the Hollywood Homes of the Month program is for each Neighborhood Association to select one house per month within its area that deserves recognition. The homes nominated take into account the visual impact the home has had on the neighborhood.

CODE ACADEMY:

In an effort to educate and empower residents, the City of Hollywood offers a Code Academy. Citizens interested in participating will attend a four-session course, each of which will focus on different topics that will educate residents on how the code enforcement process works. All sessions are free of charge to residents. During each session, code staff takes a proactive approach to delivering information about pertinent issues affecting City residents. In addition, participants have the opportunity to ride-along with a code enforcement officer. Certificates are awarded to citizens who complete the entire 10-hour course.

For details on these programs, you may contact the Department of Community Development & Code Compliance (954) 921-3061.

OPERATION PAINTBRUSH PROGRAM

Through “Operation Paintbrush,” the Office of Code Enforcement distributes up to 15 gallons of free paint to property owners in Hollywood to help them comply with the City's Property Standards Code or simply upgrade the appearance of their property.

All of the paint comes from recycling and re-blending paint collected through Broward County's Household Hazardous Waste Program. This free paint is then provided to the City from Broward County Waste and Recycling Services. Since the City's program began in 1999, more than 50,000 gallons of paint have been distributed and more than 3,000 homes painted. Paint is also provided for community service projects and for getting rid of graffiti.

For details on this program, you may contact the Department of Public Works (954-921-3020).
