SUMMER YOUTH
PROGRAM (SYP):
The Summer Youth
Program commenced in July 2004. Youths made a difference in their
community by picking up trash in the Liberia Neighborhood. The impact of
their participation made their neighborhood in the City of Hollywood a
cleaner and nicer place to live. The youths were awarded with Community
Service Hours for their participation. Additionally, movie passes were
also awarded to all participants.
Beginning in 2005,
the Summer Youth Program was enhanced by having youth assist the
elderly, single parents and persons with disabilities by painting and
landscaping their properties. Working together with other City
Departments and local vendors, the Summer Youth Program has changed the
lives of 12 Hollywood families.
Up to 50 students can
participate in the program. Each youth must be a City of Hollywood
resident, entering 9th through 12th grade of High
School and be willing to participate in a two week program, consisting
of half days during the week. Availability is on a “first come, first
served” basis.
The highlight of the
program is a trip to Disney or Universal Studios for a day of training
in Community Leadership and fun too. Youth are awarded 40 Community
Service hours (minimum Broward High School Requirement).

information or a registration packet, please contact Donna Biederman at
