Exciting News From the Office of Parking Services

STOP CARRYING COIN FOR PARKING METERS!!!!!!

The City of Hollywood, Office of Parking Services will be installing SmartCard ready single-space meters in the downtown area in January 2007.  What is a SmartCard you say?  A SmartCard is a pre-loaded, credit card size, means of paying for your parking.  Stop carrying coins, purchase a SmartCard today. The card will be sold initially with a minimum purchase of $25 of parking time on it.  The card can be reloaded at any time with any whole dollar denomination at Van Buren Street Municipal Parking Garage or at City Hall in the Office of Parking Services.

Phase I
of the implementation of this new SmartCard payment technology will be to install single-spaces meters from the east side of north and south 21 Avenue to 17 Avenue and from Van Buren Street to Polk Street. 

Phase II
will take place between April and May 2007 with the retrofitting of the master meters in the downtown area to accept the new SmartCard technology.  Master meters currently accept credit cards, bills and coin.

Phase III
of this technology will be unveiled at the Radius Parking Garage in May 2007.  A new style payment venue called a “Pay-On-Foot Station” will accept the SmartCard, credit card, bills, and coin.  The patron pulls a parking receipt upon entering the garage; they park and take the receipt with them.  When they are ready leave the area they will go back to the garage, go to one of two “Pay-On-Foot” stations, insert the receipt into the machine, the machine will calculate the parking fee, they choose your choice of payment options, pay, the machine will validate the receipt, send it back to you, you retrieve your vehicle, drive to the exit lane, insert your parking receipt and the gate arm will lift to allow exiting of the garage.   This entire process takes only a couple of minutes.

Phase IV
will complete the installation of single space meters on the F.E.C. Railroad side of north and south 21 Avenue and any master meters that need to be retrofit.

Hollywood Beach will be phased in during late 2007 and early 2008, be ready for the new and exciting way to pay for parking without the need for coins.

Watch for future customer service enhancements for paying your parking; cellphone parking is on the rise and the City of Hollywood will not be left behind!
