About Our Foreign
Language Translation:
Most of the pages on the City's website can be translated to several
languages (including Spanish and French) and back to English by
clicking on the Microsoft Translator Widget on each page. Exceptions
are third party applications, pages not hosted on the main
HollywoodFL.org site, "proper" names, applications that use an
embedded database and PDF files.
Microsoft Translator provides instant automated translation of
our content. Although the quality of the translation is beyond our
control, it should help non-English speakers get a general idea of a
page's content.
The
Microsoft Translator Widget will be visible only if your browser
window is maximized to fill the whole screen. Your screen's horizontal
resolution must be set to 1024 pixels or higher (for example,
1024x768, 1280x800 etc.).
Talking Web:
Speech-Enabled Content
Most of the pages on the City's website are speech-enabled via
Browsealoud. Browsealoud is a speech-enabling service that reads back
the content of webpages as well as PDF documents. It increases the
website's accessibility and benefits users with:
-
visual impairments
- low
literacy and reading skills
-
learning disabilities
This service is provided through a browser add-on (plug-in). This tool
can be downloaded for free from the
Browsaloud
website.
Once
downloaded and installed, Browsealoud automatically speaks when your
mouse hovers over text. If you move your mouse over some text,
Browsealoud will start to read it aloud. To stop Browsealoud from
reading the text, simply move the mouse off the text, or move it onto
a new piece of text. To turn the tool off (or on), right-click on its icon in the System Tray (lower right of your screen) and select the appropriate option. Please check
Browsaloud
website for additional information about the tool's usage.
