LET THE GAMES BEGIN…
March 1, 2008 began the first Neighborhood Olympics Program, created by the City of Hollywood, Florida.
The purpose of the Neighborhood Olympics is to engage residents in their neighborhood associations, encourage working
relationships among residents to improve their communities and promote existing city programs.
From March 1 through August 31, residents will work together to earn points for projects like painting a home, establishing a
neighborhood crime watch group, complying with code violations, patronizing local Hollywood businesses and restaurants, attending
a health and wellness workshop, neighborhoods helping or partnering with other neighborhoods and many other activities.
They will also have opportunities to receive points for participating in fun and friendly competitive events like a
Neighborhood Field Day, an adult spelling bee and lawn mower races.
Gold, silver and bronze awards will be presented to the top three neighborhoods. The winners will also receive $1,000, $500 and
$250 respectively to be used for continued neighborhood programs.
So far, ten associations have registered for the competition. Residents may join their neighborhood team at any time during
the six-month period. Neighborhood associations are encouraged to register with the Department of Housing and Community
Redevelopment by calling (954) 921-3271.
A formal introduction of the participating teams took place at the March 5th City Commission Meeting. The following is a
