Handicap Parking Rules
The City of Hollywood allows on-street metered parking at no cost for up to four hours to holders of disabled parking permits (placards and license tags). This does not apply to parking lots and garages. In addition, drivers must still obey all other City of Hollywood parking ordinances as they are fully enforced.

The table below shows what is typically allowed and not allowed.

Not Allowed
Allowed
Use of someone else's permit (including relative).
Valid permit hung on the rearview mirror.
Parking in access aisles (striped area). The fine for this violation is $255, even with a permit.
Permit hung so expiration date can be seen.
Use of an expired permit.
Vehicle properly parked in a disabled space.
Placement of a permit on dashboard with expiration date covered up.

Valid Handicap Parking Permits & License Tags
Must be properly displayed and only used when vehicle is transporting person to whom the displayed permit is issued. If the permit holder is not exiting the vehicle, then the permit may not be used.

On-Street Metered Parking
Permit is valid at any metered parking space located on-street with a four hour time limit (FSS 316.1964(5)).

Facility / Garage Parking
A valid handicap permit / tag does not exempt the driver from paying parking fees in any parking facility (i.e., surface lot or parking garage) unless the vehicle is equipped with specialized equipment, such as ramps, lifts, or foot or hand controls or the vehicle is properly displaying the Florida Toll Exemption permit.

In either of these two cases, the vehicle would be exempt from paying parking fees. (FSS 316.1964(8)).

Parking in Excess of Posted Time Limit
Parking in excess of posted time limit is when a vehicle remains parked in a public parking space longer than the time indicated on the sign posted on the public street. The fine for the first violation is $40. The second violation is $80. The third and subsequent violation within six months of the first violation is $155.

Time limits vary from 15 minutes to 3 hours.
  • A vehicle with a valid permit / tag may park free for the time limit posted on the signs.
  • After expiration of time, vehicle must move a one block radius in any direction from the original parking space.
