Safe, Efficient and Award-Winning Water Treatment
Public Utilities provides water service to 140,000 permanent residents and tens of thousands of seasonal residents and visitors each year. More than seven billion gallons of clean drinking water is served to customers annually and the quality of Hollywood’s drinking water has earned the City numerous honors. Some of the accolades include the Florida Water and Pollution Control Operators Association 2010 Utility of the Year, Region 6 of the Florida Section American Water Works Association 2008 and 2016 Best Tasting Drinking Water Contest for Broward and Palm Beach Counties, and the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2006 Consumer Confidence Report Excellence Award.

The Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant is located in Hollywood and operated by a crew of highly specialized Public Utilities staff members. The plant uses state-of-the-art technology to treat and dispose of nearly 39.1 million gallons of effluent each day. 19 million gallons of effluent is disposed via Ocean Outfall and 24.3 million gallons via Deep Injection Well.

Additionally, the Department maintains a water reclamation facility, which provides an alternative water supply for irrigation for golf courses within the City.

Department Funding
The Department of Public Utilities is an "Enterprise Fund", meaning revenues from water and wastewater services are used for utility operations and capital improvement projects. Revenue sources include monthly water and wastewater utility bills, system connection charges, reserve capacity fees, and large user sales.
