Refuse & Recycling
Overview
The Environmental Services Division oversees the timely and efficient collection of garbage, brush, hard junk, and recyclables in order to maintain the health and safety of the residents of Hollywood.  The Division also coordinates the Keep Hollywood Beautiful Programs which include monthly Beach Sweep Clean-ups, Adopt-a-Street, and Cash for Trash.

To help make sure our customers know what different types of material make up the broad term of solid waste, we provide the following list of definitions:
  • Commingled (bulk and green) Waste Material
    • Brush: Tree branches, palm fronds and shrubbery, cut to a maximum of four feet in length
    • Household Items: Old furniture, box springs, mattresses, sofas, carpeting, carpet padding, patio furniture, wood, metal, or barbeque grill (no propane tanks)
    • Loose materials: Magazines, flower pots, etc. No household hazardous waste materials or construction materials will be collected
    • White Goods: Dishwasher, washer, dryer, stove, water heater, refrigerator (door must be removed) and air conditioners (all freon must be removed)
  • Garbage - All kitchen and table refuse, rags, and food scraps.
  • Recyclables - Plastic food and beverage containers (#1-7); aluminum, steel and tin cans; clear, green, blue and brown glass; newspapers and the inserts that came with the newspaper; milk and juice cartons. Also brown, corrugated shipping boxes

Operation Paintbrush

This operation has officially moved to a new location and has a brand new schedule.  Paint distribution will now take place at 1600 S. Park Road.   Paint is available the second Saturday in January, April, July & October from 8 am until noon.  This popular program is stocked and ready for city residents to participate.  The program provides up to 20 gallons of high quality recycled exterior latex paint to single-family homeowners who provide their driver’s license and a current utility bill as proof of residency in the City of Hollywood. The paint colors currently being offered are off white, beige, terracotta, gray, and turquoise. Please contact us at 954.967.4526 for additional information.

Please Note: This is not a paint drop off site.  You must dispose of your old paint at the Broward County Household Hazardous Waste Residential Drop Off facility located at 5601 W. Hallandale Beach Boulevard on Saturdays only from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
