Biography

Mayor Peter J. M. Bober, a lifelong resident of Hollywood, was born in Miami. He is the youngest Mayor to serve in Hollywood’s long history and is the City’s first elected official of Hispanic background (Cuban). He was elected Mayor in 2008 and was re-elected in 2012. Prior to that, he served as both City Commissioner and Vice Mayor.

Mayor Bober is a graduate of Nova High School in Davie, Florida. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government and the distinction of Non-Resident Tuition Exemption Scholar. After graduation, he attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School in Philadelphia where he served as both Associate and Senior Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review.

Mayor Bober has sought to promote fiscal responsibility and transparency in City government, championing term limits and campaign finance reform. He has made expanding educational opportunities for Hollywood students a priority. Under his leadership, the first new public school to be built in forty years in Hollywood was completed; a new facility for the Hollywood Academy of Arts and Science was opened; and the City partnered with Barry University to bring its College of Health Sciences to downtown Hollywood.

Mayor Bober introduced the Recyclebank program to Hollywood and played a key role in Hollywood becoming the first City in Broward County to offer this program to reward residents for recycling. Hollywood is now a leader among cities in Broward County in the area of recycling.

Mayor Bober and his wife, Samara, practice law together at their firm in downtown Hollywood. Their law practice concentrates on both employment and personal injury cases. In addition to sharing a law practice, Mayor Bober and his wife are the proud parents of two children, Dylan and Ethan.
