Public Utilities

The Department of Public Utilities enhances the quality of life within the City of Hollywood by providing essential utility services that support current and future needs. We are a service oriented organization dedicated to providing reliable and cost effective water, wastewater, and stormwater services to all our customers. We are committed to promoting efficiency and customer satisfaction within our business culture, and encourage your input as we work collectively toward a better future.

The Department of Public Utilities has been set up as an Enterprise Fund, whereby water and wastewater service revenues received are used for operations and capital improvements. The Department is not supported financially through the City of Hollywood’s general fund. Revenue sources include monthly water and wastewater bills, system connection charges, reserve capacity fees, and large user sales.

Safe, Efficient and Award-Winning Water Treatment

The City of Hollywood provides water service to 140,000 permanent residents and tens of thousands of seasonal residents and visitors each year. Our service includes producing more than seven billion gallons of drinking water for customers annually. The quality of Hollywood’s drinking water has earned the City numerous honors, including the Florida Water and Pollution Control Operators Association 2010 Utility of the Year, Region 6 of the Florida Section American Water Works Association 2008 Best Tasting Drinking Water Contest, and the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2006 Consumer Confidence Report Excellence Award.

The Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant uses state-of-the-art technology to treat and dispose of nearly 39.1 million gallons of effluent each day (Outfall 19.0 and Deep Injection Well 24.3). Additionally, the Department of Public Utilities maintains a water reclamation facility, which provides an alternative water supply, utilized to meet irrigation requirements for many golf courses in the City of Hollywood.
