Goals and Objectives 

This board currently meets the third Thursday of each month. Meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. at the Hollywood Beach Culture and Community Center, 1301 S. Ocean Drive.

MARINE ADVISORY BOARD GOAL

MARINE ADVISORY BOARD OBJECTIVE

1. Research feasibility of marina expansion/repair project.

• Minimize costs to the City.
• Make every effort to locate grant funds to assist in cost of repairs/expansion working in cooperation with Broward County Marine Advisory Board.
• Increase revenues via evaluation of rate structures, services provided and possible increase in capacity through dock expansion.
• Meet the demand of the growing boating community.

2. Address City's image with regard to its waterways to attract more boaters, yachtsmen and waterfront commerce.

• Review all projects or activities pertaining to improvement or development of marine related projects on the City's waterways.
• Make recommendation to Commission about issues Code Enforcement should be addressing.
• Communicate with waterfront businesses to improve appearance and accessibility of their businesses by boaters.

3. Market marine activities for use by residents and tourists.

• Research and implement better methods of disseminating marine related activities and programs to residents and tourists.
• Develop Marine Advisory Board web presence on the City website.
• Provide marine activities and information updates to be published in New Horizons, a quarterly publication.

4. Promote an increased awareness and participation with City residents and students regarding marine related career opportunities available in the City of Hollywood.

• Develop and host a series of workshops once per quarter on topics such as: career opportunities, how to start your own marine business, hurricane preparedness, marine safety inviting guest speakers from marine organizations and local marine businesses thereby also promoting a sense of community.
• Market marine related education opportunities (i.e. Broward College Marine Center classes, South Broward High School Marine Magnet Program).

5. Find ways to generate opportunities for revenue in the City.

• Research feasibility of potential storage facilities.

6. Encourage participation by members on other organizations related to the marine industry including Broward County Marine Advisory Committee.

 

7. Assess availability of funding for marine related projects.

 

8. Develop and implement more effective methods of increasing awareness of marine related functions and offerings.

 

9. Conduct an annual Board workshop and review goals, objectives and accomplishments during the year.
