The Presidential Management Intern (PMI) Program was established by Presidential Executive Order in 1977. It is designed to attract to Public service outstanding individuals from a wide variety of academic disciplines who have an interest in, and a commitment to, a career in the analysis and management of public policies and programs. The program draws graduate students from a variety of academic, social, and cultural backgrounds to help meet the future challenges of public service.

CITY OF HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA MANAGEMENT INTERN PROGRAM
The City of Hollywood launched its new Management Intern Program on January 31, 2005. It is a one-year management-level internship in which a selected candidate is rotated through various City Departments to acquire the experience necessary to attain a future leadership position. Participants will be tasked with exploring various career fields and may be requested to perform special tasks and projects outside of normal rotations, at the discretion of the City Manager, Department Heads, and Program Administrators.

Candidates must have completed a Master’s Degree Program in Business Administration or Public Administration or a related field or be in their final year prior to the internship start date. Participants are expected to have general knowledge of the principles and practices related to governmental operations. During the Management Intern Program, participants will be full-time employees of the City of Hollywood. However, continued employment is not guaranteed following the completion of the program.

In addition to salary, the intern will receive health coverage, pension eligibility, paid holidays, sick leave accruals, and three (3) personal days. No vacation time will be accrued.

This program is advertised locally and nationally. Applicants are reviewed by a Selection Committee, which is appointed by the City Manager. The Selection Committee interviews candidates and makes recommendations to the City Manager or his designee, who makes the final selection. MANAGEMENT INTERN PROGRAM: POSITION PAPER QUESTION

Along side Interstate 95 just west of City Hall in the City of Hollywood sits a large area of warehouses highly visible to I-95 traffic. For decades, the area has been plagued by graffiti art, which is considered by some an eyesore and by others as a haven for urban artistic expression. The City Commission will be forced to take a stand on the issue at an upcoming Commission meeting. This area is not located in a Business Improvement District or Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). The area is considered a “hall of fame” by graffiti artists. Provide a recommendation that will improve visibility from the Highway and also address the urban art perspective. Funds are limited.
