OUTSTANDING HUMANITARIAN SERVICE
AWARD.
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community
Center’s staff was presented with an Outstanding Humanitarian Service
Award for outstanding services and programs in the Liberia community.
The award was presented on Sunday, March 11th, 2007 at
Greater Mount Pleasant AME Church. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Community center located at 2400 Charleston Street provides a variety
of services and activities for all ages including the New Image Summer
Camp and the afterschool program P.R.I.D.E. which includes homework
assistance, intramural sports and the Russell Life Skills and Reading
Foundation Program. For more information on this Hollywood center’s

Hollywood Parks,
Recreation & Cultural Arts Director Linda Probert received a 2006 Gracias Award from
Hispanic Unity of Florida for the support given the
agency for many years.
The awards
were presented
on September 16 at the 2006 Noche De Gala: Con Sabor a Mexico/A Taste
of Mexico at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood.

Hollywood
Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts assistant director Jack Mathison with
National Week of the Ocean vice president Dane Hancock. PRCA received a
NWOTO Education award for its S.E.A. (Science, Education & Adventure)
Camp, an outdoor classroom with an emphasis on the marine sciences at
the recent NWOTO Community Marine Awards Night. The event was
co-sponsored by National Week of the Ocean, the Marine Industries
Association of South Florida & host, IGFA.

The Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts of the City of
Hollywood has been
notified that it is the recipient of the National Recreation and
Parks Association’s 2005 Dorothy Mullen
National Arts and Humanities Award (Class III). It is the
Department’s third Dorothy Mullen excellence award for its cultural
enrichment programs, the second on the national level. |

In August the Department received a Florida Recreation & Parks
Association Corporate Support Award for cooperative efforts between
DaimlerChrysler Services and the City of Hollywood, transforming
Oakridge Park into a showcase facility park. (Pictured are from left

In addition, Shirley Dietrich, Vice Chair of PRCA’s Advisory Board, was
honored with a Voluntary Service Award at the Tampa FRPA Conference.
This annual award is presented to citizens or organizations whose
voluntary contributions of time and efforts over a period of time, have
improved the quality and quantity of leisure opportunities through
parks, recreation and leisure service programs and projects in
neighborhoods, communities, or the State of Florida.

The
Hollywood Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department was awarded a
Red Baron
Media Award for its Commemorative Poster for the 2004 Hollywood
International Art & Music Festival held in October (Budget category of
$99,000 and under). The Red Baron Media Awards signify the highest
level of achievement for members of FFEA. |

The Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts of the City of
Hollywood has received a 2004 Florida Recreation and Park Association
(FRPA) Award for Agency Excellence.
It is the Department’s first state level award in this category. |

Chosen
from nearly 1,400 entries in the recent International Festival & Events
Association Pinnacle Awards, Bits o' the Bard, entered by the Hollywood
Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department garnered the Best
Community Outreach
Program award with a budget under $250,000 on November 19 at the
Anaheim, CA conference. |
