Message from the Director
The
Department of Public Utilities is dedicated to providing reliable and cost
effective water, wastewater, and stormwater services to all our customers. We
are a service oriented organization that promotes efficiency and customer
satisfaction within our business culture. With nearly 200 employees, our
department focuses on further enhancing the quality of life within our community
by providing essential utility services necessary to support current and future
needs.
Our responsibilities to our customers include the treatment and delivery of safe
drinking water, the safe and efficient collection, treatment and disposal of
wastewater and to mitigate the impact of stormwater in the City of Hollywood.
To ensure the drinking water reaching our
customer's tap meets or exceeds local,
state and federal regulation, we perform daily water quality analysis.
Department of Public Utilities operates a state of the art water treatment plant, which
provides us the operational flexibility to treat waters of different
characteristics to high quality standards using membrane softening and low
pressure reverse osmosis.
Operating a regional wastewater treatment facility is just part of our
commitment in the safe and efficient collection and treatment of wastewater.
Utilizing cutting edge technology the Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment
Plant treats and disposes of nearly 45 million gallons of effluent each day.
Additionally, Department
of Public Utilities maintains a water reclamation facility,
which provides an alternative water supply, utilized to meet irrigation
requirements for many of our golf courses here in the City of Hollywood.
Through our stormwater program, the City of Hollywood has a federally
established community rating system (CRS) score, which automatically lowers
flood insurance rates throughout the City. With the implementation of the City's Stormwater Master Plan and continued partnerships with local, state and federal
agencies Hollywood's drainage improvements will continuously progress.
The
Department of Public Utilities is proud to be on the leading edge as it relates to
important initiatives in the public utilities front. The challenges of meeting
ever-changing state and federal regulations while supporting continuous growth
and redevelopment require a dynamic utility strategy. By using advanced
treatment technologies, best management practices, and adopting strategic
utility initiatives we are able to proactively lead the utilities department
into the future.
Our management team and staff are experienced professionals that have over the
years developed to become among the very best in the utilities industry. As we
move ahead, we will vigorously emphasize on building on this experience, and
instituting key initiatives that will enable our utilities department to become
a benchmark within our industry.
We are privileged to serve your water, wastewater and stormwater utility needs
and encourage your input as we collectively work towards a better future. Please
feel free to contact our department if you have any questions.
