Lending library
Hardly a day goes by when we don't hear something about water, and students of all ages in South Florida need to understand the variables affecting the quality and quantity of the water from which their lives depend. To this end, the City of Hollywood Water Public Utilities has available a "lending library" of various water related aides. The idea for this program was spawned from involvement between City employees, local teachers, the general public, and most importantly, the children.
This is a collection of materials useful within a classroom environment. They include ideas for science projects, teachers' guides, worksheets, and coloring books/activity booklets for children which are available for use in their entirety, to incorporate parts into curriculums, or to peruse for individual ideas. There are also donated children's reading books about where water comes from, what we use it for, etc. and videos on various water subjects. In addition, we have a documentary produced for the Nature Company showing the beauty of water, and a music video (to the Hungarian Rhapsody), produced and donated by a local film maker, reflecting on humans' relationship with water and the earth.
Our lending library is based out of the Water Quality Office located at 1621 N. 14th Avenue (Wastewater Treatment Plant). The office hours are from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. You can call (954) 921-3414 to reserve materials, or if you have any questions.
