WWTP Tour - Effluent Pumping
Effluent pumping supplements the gravitational energy of the ocean outfall under
conditions of high tide and/or peak flows. Depending on tidal and plant
discharge conditions, flows are transported by gravity, or pumped, to the ocean
via an ocean outfall. The treated wastewater flows via a 120-inch gravity line
from the effluent hydraulic box, where it is chlorinated, to the station's wet
well. The effluent pumping system consists of two variable-speed centrifugal
pumps one base and one stand-by. The station's effluent flows to the Atlantic
Ocean via a 60-inch outfall. In the course of normal operation, the pumps
automatically alternate at the end of every 12 hour period to minimize wear on
any one pump.
So how else is the treated effluent used? Some we
use as Non-Potable Water.
