Water Treatment
The City of Hollywood has provided excellent quality drinking water for its residents since 1925. The City has continued to expand and enhance its treatment capabilities, and we feel our system provides the highest quality of water for the people of Hollywood. The City of Hollywood Water Treatment Plant produces over 7 billion gallons of treated drinking water each year. Of note, 99% of the treated drinking water is utilized for purposes other than drinking (i.e. baths, laundry, cooking, irrigation, etc.) This is why we also manage conservation programs to emphasize saving all sources of water. Your water is kept safe, meeting and/or exceeding all regulatory requirements for safe drinking water, while meeting the demands of all users, including fire safety.
The City uses two different processes to treat its water, lime softening and membrane treatment. The latter installed in a new facility which was completed in 1996 as part of the Water Treatment Plant upgrade. In the 1980's the City determined that membrane technology would be the best method to allow the City to meet future regulations for drinking water quality. The Membrane Softening Plant is one of the largest membrane softening plants in the nation. This upgrade continues the City's tradition of planning for the future needs of the residents and businesses of Hollywood. The new plant utilizes the latest technology to treat raw water from wells in the Biscayne and Floridan aquifers.
