THE BEACH MAINTENANCE PROGRAM:

The Streets Superintendent also oversees the Beach Maintenance program. A Public Works Supervisor directs an 18-member crew who maintain 5 miles of beach (including Dania Beach), 2.5 miles of Broadwalk, and 75 east-west streets that end at the Broadwalk. Normal working hours are 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily.

 The responsibilities include:

  • Providing garbage collection service for restaurants, shops, and residents on the barrier-island.
  • Monitoring contract cleaning of City-owned restroom facilities in beachfront parks and along the Broadwalk.
  • Maintaining dune vegetation and palms on the beach.
  • Sweeping the Broadwalk and east-west streets.
  • Raking and grading the sandy beach (cleaning activities are limited to manual cleaning and grading during the Sea Turtle Season which is from March 1st to October 31st).
  • Addressing any safety hazards that occur on the barrier-island and performing beach cleanup after storms and hurricanes.
  • Contract cleaning of the City of Dania Beach's parking lot and sand beach.
