Proposed Highland Gardens & North Central Sidewalk Improvement Project

Gracewood Sidewalk Program

The City of Hollywood is applying for a grant to fill in missing sidewalk sections in the Highland Gardens and North Central Neighborhoods.  The primary purpose of this project is to improve pedestrian safety by providing a safe network of interconnected sidewalks that will allow people of all ages and abilities to travel to the many locations in the area. 

The grant process, in part, requires “community support” for the project. The City is offering a number of online options where you can lend your support for the project:

PROJECT DETAILS

Up to $3 million in grant funding is available for this project as part of the Complete Streets and other Localized Initiative Programs (CSLIP), administered by the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization. The application is due October 5th with funding to be determined between October and December 2023. If awarded, funding will become available in 2027 for design and construction would begin in 2028.. 

PROPOSED PROJECT SCOPE

  • Construct 10.5 miles of new 5 foot wide concrete sidewalk with curb ramps to fill-in missing sections and connect to the existing sidewalk infrastructure.
  • Add an estimated 270 curb ramp (ADA) to improve pedestrian safety and access
  • North Central Neighborhood - construct approx. 3.9 miles of new sidewalks and add 90 ADA ramps
  • Highland Gardens Neighborhood - construct approx. 1.75 miles of new sidewalks and add 20 ADA ramps
  • United Neighbors of South Hollywood - construct approx. 4.85 miles of new sidewalks and add 160 ADA ramps
