Tropical Storm Nicole Graphic

As of 11/10/22 at 5:00 p.m.

Hurricane Nicole made landfall in the overnight hours just south of Vero Beach. As the storm moves away from the South Florida area conditions will continue to improve. The National Weather Service has lifted the Tropical Storm Warning for Broward County, but coastal areas including the City of Hollywood remain under a flood advisory until 7:00 p.m. Minor coastal flooding will be possible today in the high tide cycles (10:14 a.m. and 10:18 p.m.) Additionally, the surf remains elevated and is forecast to gradually diminish through Friday. Rip currents should be expected along both coasts today. After coming ashore as a Category 1 Hurricane, Nicole has weakened and is now a Tropical Storm. This weakening will continue while the system moves across Florida and the southeastern United States through Friday, and it is likely to become a post-tropical cyclone by Friday afternoon. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to trusted news providers like the US National Weather Service Miami Florida and the NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center for the latest information on this system.

Flood Safety Information

  • Motorists should not attempt to drive through flooded areas. Floodwaters can damage your vehicle and prevent you from seeing safety hazards in the roadway.
  • Public Works crews are working to clear sand and debris from areas impacted by flooding.  Please do not interfere with work crews and avoid traveling in these areas.
  • Residents should not go outside or wade in standing flood water, which can contain contaminants. Following a heavy storm, sharp debris and other items from overturned garbage bins could be hidden in the water and cause injury. Standing water also may contain harmful bacteria that could cause infection.
  • Health officials remind the public to not let children or pets play in flood water.
  • Call 911 if flood damage to your home has created an emergency situation such as a fire, however do not call 911 to report street-level flooding. 911 is for emergencies only.
  • Residents should have their homeowner’s insurance information and flood insurance information readily available. If you experience flood damage, seek advice from your insurer on documenting the damage and drying out your home. The same applies for contacting your vehicle insurance provider if you find your vehicle has been damaged
