City of Hollywood To Conduct Residential Property Address Update in Preparation for U. S. Census
Every ten years the United States Census Bureau systematically records data about the nation’s populace and the economy. The next U.S. Census is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2020. In preparation for the census, the U.S. Census Bureau has offered tribal, state, and local governments the opportunity to review and update their residential address list prior to the census taking place. This opportunity is known as the “Local Update of Census Addresses” or LUCA.
The City of Hollywood has received the resident address list from the U.S. Census Bureau and has compared that with the Broward County Property Appraiser and has found discrepancies. As such, beginning on Wednesday, April 28, 2018 and continuing over the next 90-120 days, select City of Hollywood employees, wearing official identification issued by the City, will be conducting phone call and residential property visits to confirm dwelling information at a limited number of properties. City employees are only gathering residential dwelling information, NOT information on individual persons living inside the dwelling. Staff will be working from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. daily, including weekends. They DO NOT require access to the inside of any residence during these visits.
The goal of the phone calls and property visits is to ensure the City of Hollywood provides the most accurate residential address list to the U.S. Census Bureau. Having a complete and accurate list of every living quarters in the City is important because the federal government uses the list to distribute more than $400 billion dollars in funding annually for infrastructure, programs, and services. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. For more information on LUCA please call 1-844-344-0169 or the City of Hollywood Office of Community Development at 954.921.3271.
