Whenever a position becomes available, the Human Resources Department will create an Employment Opportunity posting. This posting will contain a brief job description, statement of minimum educational and experience requirements, and will include a description of any special qualifications which may be required. Postings will be available for review on the city’s website. Employment applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on the posted closing date unless otherwise specified. Resumes cannot be substituted for this requirement but may accompany a completed employment application.
In order to ensure your application receives the attention it deserves, you will need to submit a separate application for each open position for which you wish to be considered through our online Applicant Tracking System (ATS). It is very important you fill out the application completely, even if you attach a resume. Do not state “see resume” when asked to describe your responsibilities, experience, and employment dates. Due to the volume of applications, every candidate meeting the minimum qualifications cannot be guaranteed an interview and the screening process can take several weeks to complete. Candidates are selected for an interview based on education and work experience most closely matching the requirements of the position and may be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to, evaluation of training and experience, written test, oral test and performance test.
Depending on the position, the examination process may consist of one or any combination of the following: written exam, performance exam, education and experience evaluation, oral exam and/or other job related examinations. A passing grade is required on every examination. If a written and/ or performance test is required, it will be conducted by the Human Resources Office.
Applicants that pass will be scheduled for any additional testing or will be notified in writing of final score and position on the Civil Service Register. Applicants that fail will be notified in writing.
